Back around 1983 I saw U2 at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, right up front. Their first couple of albums were just kickass music and they kept their pieholes shut about stuff that wasn't their business. Altogether, I've seen them in concert seven times, ending with the Joshua Tree tour (X2).

Now Paul Hewson (Bono) has somehow gotten the mistaken impression that people give a damn what he has to say when the band isn't playing behind him. He's going around the world with his damned hand out asking donor countries (Gee, who could he be talking about....?) to forgive third world debt.

I'm sorry, I missed the part of his resume where he got a Masters in Public Administration or International Finance from SMU.

It's damned disappointing when people you looked forward to hearing from again get far too big for their ridiculous rockstar leather pants and think that a few million albums makes them more important than they really are. What a jagoff.

I've always thought Bono and U2 spewed massive amounts of PC Bullsh!t.  Glad you have finally seen through the smokescreen.

I wrote them off when they put out that steaming pile of shite "Zooropa" or whatever it was called. The movie "Rattle and Hum" didn't do anything to endear them to me either.

I disagree.  I think it is great for a couple of reasons.  And BTW, I am a big U2 fan (that's not the only reason).

1.  I like to see people get involved for a cause.  Damn it, do something.  As long as it resembles something that is productive, good for the human race, etc. etc.  There are exceptions, as we all know.

2.  Sometimes celebrities get involved in causes for the sole reason in improving their self-image, satisfy their egos, etc.  I don't think this is the case.  Bono seems to be a decent guy who is already well known, filthy rich, etc.  I believe he is doing this because he is trying to do something good for humanity.

3.  That's his nature.  I think he likes to get involved in causes that most people could care less about.  Good or bad, who knows?  But he succeeds in getting people to at least notice.

Actually, he has always been fairly active in politics, world affairs, etc.  Even in the early days.

Bono is a DECENT guy? You've got to be joking. I guess all the other people who want to see your guns banned are DECENT guys? Man it is people like you who make it so easy.

I will agree with you on one thing. Bono has always been politicly active. He's a freakin Communist thinly veiled as a do gooder!

Bono has ALWAYS been an simpering ass clown.

In my opinion (I have the right to one, after all!) `80's music was the worst. U2, REM, Boy George, it's all the same CRAP to my ears. There was less good music (to my ears) created during the `80's than in any single year of the `70's or the `90's. There were a few bright spots, but U2 and Boner wasn't one of them. Rap started in the `80's. To me that says it all. I completely stopped listening to FM radio through most of the decade. It wasn't until Alice in Chains, STP, and Soundgarden that I started to have a little faith in the music industry again.

Screw Boner. He sucks, his "music" sucks, and as we now see, his politics sucks. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

Everyone:

send boner all your money and earthly possessions, for he knows how to put them to the best use for the 'needs of the many over the needs of the few'
and
send him all of your firearms and sharp, pointy objects.  he will gladly crush them under one of koffi's steamrollers.

he wants to do this with your stuff, not his.

boner - what a useless pos.

You know this topic reminds me on how ridiculous certain people can be.

Why not hate everyone except yourself?  Because after all, that is the only person who will agree with you 100% of the time.

I make it so easy?  You have no fucking clue what-so-ever on my position on gun control.

Just because I think that Bono is doing a good thing in Africa doesn't mean jack shit about what I think about him as far as the gun control debate.

If THAT was the topic, perhaps I might have responded differently.  Truth is, I don't immediately judge someone's true character on the way they stand on one particular issue.

Well, his stance on gun control is only one of many reasons Bono is an ass clown.

His crusade to show America that African countries are putting our money to good use is a JOKE! Anyone who believes that the leaders of those countries aren't pocketing money probably also believes in the tooth fairy. It's been common practice in Africa for a LONG time, and it isn't going away anytime soon.

And what about his creative idea to forgive third world debt? Sounds alot like wealth redistribution to me.

So I say again, Bono is an ass clown.

And anybody who says that Bono is a decent guy, sure sounds like an ass clown as well.

Did you guys see the Simpsons episode when Homer was running for Sanitation Commissioner?  He crashed a U2 concert and Bono intervened to allow Homer to speak because "Garbage is an issue that affects the whole damned planet!".  The parody was absolutely hilarious, but was (sadly) very close to the truth.

Bono is a tool that thinks government solutions will solve fundamental social problems.  I dislike the fact that he is trying to pry money out of the US when he is not a citizen.  He is more than capable of taking the proceeds from his concert tours and doing something useful all by himself...

Holy cow!  Something Jarhead and I actually agree upon!  Hallelujah!

If Bono is such a great guy, why doesn't he give away all his money to help the causes?  It's really easy to spend other folks' money, especially when you can do it via some faceless government agency.  Bono is utterly gutless--rather than rob people on the street like the common criminal he is, he robs us by proxy and makes the weak-minded praise him even though he is just a white collar criminal.  Achtung, baby!  This is racketeering at its finest!  No wonder he wears those rose colored glasses all the time.

I wish celebrities and entertainers would stop pretending like they are knowledgable on a wide range of topics.  They are mainly the "useful idiots" that people like Castro love so much.  I like the quieter celebs who don't make a big stinking deal about this or that cause.  All that meddling often makes things worse, not better.  3rd World debt forgiveness only sounds good on the surface.  Remember, someone ends up footing the bill and that someone is usually the US taxpayer, which is why our damn taxes are so high.  So instead of helping the 3rd World, what will ultimately happen is this country will be dragged down more and more and come to resemble the debt-forgiven pissant countries whose constitutions are written in pencil.  Thanks a bunch there, Bono(head).

Every two-bit dictator in the world seems to have their hand in our till one way or another.  Now we have the war on terror which promises to bankrupt us all, and let's not forget the war on drugs still raging--Colombia is going to ask for even more dinero.  I guess the $2Billion we sent there last year barely covered their army's underwear budget.

Most of the entertainment industry zillionaires are classic examples of "Liberal Guilt".

By that I mean that they are so wealthy, many due to chance, not hard work and/or talent, that they are embarrassed by their wealth and feel compelled to take up a cause to fill their inner personal vacuum.  Thus, they "justify" their wealth and prominence.  To give up their $$$ and notoriety would be to lose their voice for "progress".

Nice work, if you can get it.

Politically and socially, Bono is an ASS CLOWN EXTRORDINAIRE!!

I saw U2 in concert in '83 - EXCELLENT show.

I saw them again in '87 when that Irishman Bono put himself smackdab in the middle of LOCAL Arizona politics by publicly advocating the  impeachment of then Arizona Governor Ev Mecham while they toured here. Ever since Bono has been a total dumbsh!t in my book.

"Joshua Tree" was the last time their music was any good.

Don't start planning any long, hand-holding sunset walks together until you repudiate the terrorism that you encouraged against the USA.

As far as the moral argument that "my country" has been attacked, all I can say is, this isn't "my country" and hasn't been for quite a long time. I pay nearly half my income in taxes and have no functioning representation in "my government". As far as I'm concerned, it was New York, in all its decandent, decaying socialist splendor that was attacked more than anything else. I used to live there and I can tell you--if the whole city gets nuked at some point, the big loss will be to capitalism, not to the gene pool. Personally, I'd rather see them bust up DC where a comeuppance is so richly deserved.
