Anyone do this job? Have a friend who says he can get me on contractually. They'll give me on the job training and if I toe the mark I'll be able to get off contract status and get the real employment status in a year or two.

I'm talking to him today about it, this would be huge for me and my wife given it pays 3 times what I make now.

However never having worked in a refinery, I'm not sure what process operations is.

I'm a refinery operator.  I work in a sulfur unit, so I'm in a little different line of work than the rest of the refinery.  Good paying jobs, typically all the overtime you can stand.  Shift work as well, which isn't one of the best parts of the job.

Refinery operator jobs are usually pretty good, depending on where you are and such. Pay will be decent to start, but they're really geared towards keeping you there long-term.

You'll start off at the bottom with the crappy work usually, but stick with it for a few years. Could be a good career. Lots of OT during shutdowns and startups and such.

ETA: there is no shortage of stuff that can kill you in a refinery. Take the safety training seriously and follow the rules, even if nobody else does.

I'm all for OT and the schedule doesn't bother me. I can work any shift.

My wife wants to be a stay at home mom when we have kids and this job would provide that.
