...for the collector of Soviet/Russian gear. They are at the Big Town Gun Show in Mesquite, Texas, this weekend, and the stuff that they had with them was incredible! The BDUs, camo, web gear, etc., were all great, but the really fantastic part was the selection of optics that they had. Night vision scopes that attached directly to the AR-15 line. Very nice, indeed. Here's the little device that I will be buying from them: And here it is described:http://www.redsoldier.com/product.asp?0=209&1=252&3=140 Does anyone have any experience with any of these particular night vision optics? ETH, I found them and spent some quality time speaking with them about their operation. They're American guys based in Coppell, TX. They have access to a wide range of Russian gear. They can also have gear custom made to your specifications using Russian patterns and either Russian or American materials. Their firearms expert and I had an enjoyable talk and we are going to exchange some information. I want these guys to display at the national event. |

| i have the same one pictured, mine is generation 1+, i can see a god 200 yards woth some ambiant light, and 1-125 with no ambient light, cloudy at night, it is easy to sight in, and seems to hold the point of aim well, i only have one problem at all with mine, when attatched to the piccatinney rail, it can slide, it needs to have a lug installed to engage the slots in the weapons mount set up, i made one, now it is rock solid, i love this one, and will be getting the 3rd gen unit for mine soon, they also have a more compact unit which is based on the same as pictured, it has a pic rail on top, and is shorter in the oal length, has lost the length in the front of the unit, can be seen in the cabellas catalog |

Yeah, Arock, I figured you might have passed by their tables, as well. Bunghole and I stood there, 'fiddling' with those optics for a good half hour, and talking with them about the items! They were pretty cool folks and knew their stuff! I agree, they should be prime candidates for being an invited vendor to our Convention! Let's work on it! Eric The(VeryObservant)Hun[>]:)] |

B.S, what? To what are you referring? That someone posted a link to Red Soldier.com, or that someone posted a thread about these night vision scops? 'Spain yourself, Lucy! Point out the thread to which you're referring to at least. Eric The(Clueless)Hun[>]:)] |

Post from LotBoy - Amen! I don't see any specs listed. Specs? Or prices? There appears to be 'specs' listed on both the Red Soldier website and the Cabela website, how much more specs you looking for? If it's more than what's shown, then e-mail or contact either group to find the specs you wish to peruse. Eric The(Sheesh!)Hun[>]:)] |

Oh, I did a search and found that I had posted a slightly different thread earlier this morning. Quite frankly, I didn't think that it was posted before I went to church, so when I got back I posted what I thought was the original thread. Here is the earlier thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=169151&w=searchPop But, I never saw any 'derogatory' posts in it until I read it just now! So, let me copy those 'derogatory' remarks again here, just to show you, MSG, that nothing, but nothing is done by me, under the table! From Osprey21 - Cabela's sells that same unit for $1349.99 What was Red's price ? Hardly a derogatory comment, but who knows? From MSG - $1,800 on their website. Looks like another company trying to squeeze some more loot out of the whole cold war mystique. Yes, this is certainly a derogatory comment - it should not surprise you who the author is, MSG. From Avtomat - lookslike the same one sportsmansguide sells Again, hardly a derogatory comment, wouldn't you say? So, of the three replies, your's was the only derogatory remark. Now, does this redux of your prior derogatory comment constitute 'truth in advertising' by yours truly? Eric The(ItShould!)Hun[>]:)] |

Very good ETH. Just looked like somebody was trying to promote a retailer and then withdraw and reengage when everybody didn't get all exited over it. My real point is that some folks will automatically assume that because something is promoted as red army equip, it is going to be a good deal. As somebody pointed out, these products are/were/and have been available for some time at similar, if not cheaper prices. |

Eric The(Sheesh!)Hun[>]:)] I'm looking for numbers(so i can compare it to american units), not stuff like this: Features and characteristics: * Titanium shockproof housing * Luminous red reticle * Powerful IR-illuminator * Silent power supply unit * Lightweight * Long range * Oblique eye shade * High resolution * Large objective lens * Remote activation switch * Photo/video adapter * Ergonomically designed controls You can download the specs for the ITT units off their site in .pdf. |

Post from MSG - Very good ETH. Thank you very kindly. Just looked like somebody was trying to promote a retailer and then withdraw and reengage when everybody didn't get all exited over it. If the 'somebody' you are referring to is me, then, sorry, but you are quite wrong. I am not promoting anyone, I am simply pointing out a dealer that I happened to run across yesterday at a Gun Show in Mesquite, Texas. I have never met these folks in my life, other than yesterday, nor have I ever talked with them, e-mailed them, telephoned them, or otherwise contacted them prior to my talk with them yesterday. Only Bunghole was with me when I was talking with them yesterday. I had no idea that Arock or anyone else may have seen them yesterday or talked with them, until Arock posted his story on this thread! I care not a whit whether 'everybody gets all excited' over it or not! Why would I? Why should I? I just thought these were neat items for sale, at what I thought were extremely reasonable prices. I have a closet full of former Soviet and current Russian optics and night vision devices, some that are not featured on any website that I have ever seen on the Internet. And yet, these items at Mesquite interested me quite a bit! Maybe I'm getting jaded in my old age, or maybe you are, but there was not a bit of guile in either of these threads. Otherwise I wouldn't have just abandoned my previous thread, with it's ONE negative response (by you, of all people), I would simply have deleted it and started anew! Now are you trying to initmate something else? Let me know, so I can see where you are going with your post. My real point is that some folks will automatically assume that because something is promoted as red army equip, it is going to be a good deal. As somebody pointed out, these products are/were/and have been available for some time at similar, if not cheaper prices. Please, MSG, I think we should all have great respect for the business acumen of the folks who post on and read from this Board! If these items are NOT good deals, and I still happen to think they are great deals, then it will not be long before others join their voices with yours in negative comments about either the items or their prices. We folks here are pretty damn clever! Although you may not think so! Eric The(HonestInjun)Hun[>]:)] |

Post from LotBoy - I'm looking for numbers(so i can compare it to american units), not stuff like this: etc.... Then go ask these guys! They give a link for contacts, don't they? Well, use it! Sorry, but I suppose that I am an easy sell. I have been buying Soviet equipment since the late 80s, from friends in and out of Germany, and some Eastern Bloc countries. I have been buying Russian stuff since the Soviet Union collapsed. I think I know this stuff pretty well, but I am NO EXPERT, for a fact! The Osprey Gen I Nightvision Riflescope that I handled yesterday, and the Gen II and Gen III versions that I found on the Red Soldier.com website, appear to me to be of the highest quality equipment that I have seen from that part of the world! Bunghole, whose opinion in these matters I also respect, was likewise quite impressed, as it appears, was Arock. So, your point is...? Eric The(Huh?)Hun[>]:)] |

Quoted: You could try this one. Notice the ru addy. www.tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/ That has always been one of the coolest sites, around, but I couldn't find anything there that remotely resembles the Osprey unit that I'm interested in - it may be because the Osprey unit is not military, but civilian?
