[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Red Dawn scenario... TSHTF (Page 1 of 2)

| You are watching TV one morning and a PSA announcement comes on saying that a national emergency has been declared due to a well organized armed invasion of middle eastern gentlemen. You are in one of the invasion areas and the announcement says that the response in your area will take about 30 days to 6 months, so until then, you are on your own. You decide that your best chance for survival is to bug out on your bike, avoid contact with others as much as possible and live off the undeveloped land/wilderness until it is safe. You can only take one firearm and 1000 rounds of ammo… and you must decide between a .22 rifle or a .357 magnum pistol. What do you take? (I vote for the .22) |
|
Go to my local Airbase and take an abandoned F-16... But serously, id take both and cut the ammo in half, 500 .22 and 500 .357, but it also depends on the .22 rifle, is it Semi-Auto or Bolt Action? becuase if its Bolt, i wouldnt take it if it didnt have the proper optics and such... |
take the .22 "get a pistol" with it (WW2 Liberator style), I dont know how they'ed get here ? Cargo containers??? . More likley UN troops from Africa on some pretense with national emergency . But I dont see how that would last long either . If "we" could stop shooting each other long enough over apples I think patriots could retake the country. Who knows in 30 years what could happen . But talk about trible ! we'd be little fifedoms like in the mid east (warlords) "A Boy And His Dog" kinda thing .....Naw ! The "stash" of gun in this country may serve us well for a while (minus the 6 guns turned in for sneakersedited to say the differance in ammo wieght alone might dictate . I love the flicks who not only never swap mags. but also guys humping Beucoup Rds . That shit is heavy |
| Id take the 357 handgun. get my ass to the closest gun store and see if I can tag along. Load up the pickup with all the ammo and gear I can and make for the hills. (that or I would just sit on my roof with the ar and a bunch of propane tanks all day of the dead style. |

Given that in a state of national emergency, all the guy's with gunshops are not gonna be answering any doors. I'd take the .22 Rifle. You can snipe small game, you can silence the retort, so no-one would hear what you were doing. I think in the wilderness a .22 would be far more useful, quieter, deadly on small game and humans from under 100 yards. Can carry a lot of ammo for the weight. If I wasn't planning on living Ray Mears style in the mountains, I'd use the .22 as a short range sniper rifle and use it as a means to comandeer a more powerful weapon. Besides which, my .22 IS an AR15, so I just need to steal someones upper :-) Dave |

My 10/22 with screw on suppressor and BC sidefolder. I'd fit it in the backpack so it would be unseen, and I'd cheat like hell by adding my SA 1911 on the hip. Hell while I'm cheating my midlength AR would also be broken down and hidden in the pack. I dont have a bike so I'll take my F350 with the camper. Since I have a camper I'll stuff another 20 or so guns and a ton of ammo in the camper. Since I have a truck with a camper now I might as well put the trailer on too and take a couple quads. I now have plenty of capacity and will take everything I can think of. Never play fair, always cheat! |
Keep killing Haji and his friends, upgrade arsenal with every altercation. Can I also take my neighbors two daughters with me. Also need to find RPG's. Semper Fi, Do or Die |
A CONUS invasion? That would have to be one LARGE invasion force first of all to present any credible threat to the US military, and no US response would take even 30 days. You'd see so many mobilized military within 72 hours the invading force would be fertilizer. |
Nah, you'd know about it 15 minutes before anyone else. You'd still miss bugging out though, because you'd wait to see Old_Painless post the ultimate "Box o' truth" performed on reactive targets! |

I'd be happy I didn't choose the .22 or the .357 and went with "Option 3" not aforementioned and selected an AR and an 1911 instead, I'd also locate a dull butter knife, stick around and make a real nuissance of myself.. T H E N I'd kidnap some of the " middle eastern badguys" (Arfcom politically correct word for 'em) occupying my beloved America, lop their heads off with butter knife, video tape it, send it to Al Jazeera, NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, hell, even the friggen OUTDOOR CHANNEL, just to piss the Middle Eastern Bad Guys off. Fair is fair, after all. Ya know, "monkey see monkey do stuff" all to make 'em feel "welcome". After, I'd have a beer with a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich while I maranated porkchops in Jack Daniels for dinner. YUP, Yup, yup.... Welcome boys! |
If the S did HTF several people here would post it here, and a buncha other people woukld reply with Dupe and IBTL. Then the survival forum would be a dull place. That being said, I'd go with the .22 ![]() Also, if the SHTF would anyone really bug out with only one weapon? |
I'm too old for bikes unless they got a motor on them. If Im watching TV then they must not have had air support to knock out the power or the TV station. If they invaded and they are in my area then they must not have armor or we would have heard them. The best they could have is small arms. so, I think an organized defence with my nieghbors would be the thing to do. Use natuarl land features to get 'em close together like bridges over rivers then make a stand. If all I had was a 22 or a 357 well that would mean that I have both at hand since I not fleeing. But if I was at my house then they would get the wrath of my 6.8mm recce carbine, 10mm pistol, 300 win mag for long range work. I know some will get to see ALA before I'm finished. ![]() another load from the floor of the 10th Cavalry stables |
It would probably last about an hour at best. A good AR and about 7 30rd mags should hold you out for that period of time. |
|
do we get tannerite to go with our .22? I'd probably take the rifle over a handgun, but if other people can say "fuck your choices, I'm taking the AR" then I'd say that I'd probably throw a 12guage pump on a sling over my back for close encounters of the middle eastern kind with assorted slug and 00 buck loads, and maybe some birdshot for when I get tired of the squirrel I'm getting with the 10/22. |

.22 or .357? forget that... I'd take .223/5.56N and 7.62x39 Why? Two very common calibers... If an occupation force from the ME (as you said in your scenario) did arrive, they would be using rifles/ammo common to their military (7.62x39, 7.62x54R, and 5.45x39). In a worst case scenario, assume you cannot get a new supply of ammo. What you brung is what you've got possibly for a year or more. 5.56N is used by allied forces... in case Canada, the UK, Australia, or other US forces come to your aid, you can quickly get a resupply for your rifle. 7.62x39 - very common caliber and has good lethality and accuracy to 100yd, plus ammo is probably found on the bodies of dead invaders, so you've got a possible source of ammo resupply. I'm not sure on pistols and what not, I'd probably take medium to long range rifles only. Leave the bolt-guns for long long range sniping only. Definitely 5.56N + Phantom/Vortex for night ops. |
