4" Yost (BV-4) is gtg or a Wilton 11105. They are small enough to not take up room on your bench and big enough to assemble an AR.

Avoid harbor freight or any other Chinese brands that are not 30k cast iron or have horrible reviews.  Amazon has best prices that I could find for new vises.

25% off and free shipping from MSC right now.

Check other places, but that's probably your best bet for something that is even remotely decent.

I found a 80 pound vise in someone's basement and they only wanted $15 for it.  I was there to buy a shelf they had on CL. Keep an eye out used.  Old iron is best iron.

I got mine from Craigslist, big and old for $20.

Weirdly, the last three houses I've moved into already had a vice installed on a workbench except this house.  Go figure.

I'd buy an old one at a garage sale.  I got a 75lb WW2 era USN stamped vice for $25 recently.  I like blacksmith leg vises more though.

Post vises are awesome.

And I'd definitely look for an old used one.  May take a while to find, though.

Get on the want-ads used for sale in your area and find and old school American made vice.

There are a lot of them just gathering dust looking for a home.

Spend just a little more and get this one. This will last forever and take lots of abuse-

I just spent $300 some on a brand new Wilton Tradesman.

I now need another for my new garage. ??

I only went that high up to have Anerican made. Yost and Wilton sell lower end stuff that is probably just fine.
