Went out to the desert for the weekend with some friends for some shooting. Weapons included a SIG P-229 that jammed once (on factory ammo) and four M1911 varients that didn't jam at all (on a mix of factory & reloads). This adds to my past experience of 1911s performing more reliably than SIG P226s and 9 mm and .45 Glocks. Not statistically significant reliability testing to be sure, but that's my experience. There was also a Walter P-38 (Russian war booty) that jammed at least twice. I think that a Browning HP 9mm jammed, but I didn't confirm it afterwards. We spent quite a portion of Sunday doing "one-on-one" duels, where the winner was the one who knocked down two bowling pins first, at ten paces. This was done with handguns and a Remington 870 shotgun. The shotgun owner needed more practice with his shotgun; he lost both "duels" to handgunners (he had done well with his handguns, the P-229 and a Ruger P-85). I could write up a list of "lessons learned", but the list pretty much confirms prior knowledge. For example, spray-and-pray didn't work. |
