At the shop we had a customer order a Rock River rifle. The rifle was on sale for $1000, plus choice of rear sight, and free shipping. It was a pretty good deal.

Customer's rifle comes in and the corner of one of the fore end rails had poked a hole through the plastic case. The rifle was undamaged but there was roughly a 1/2" hole (split) in the case. To me it was not a big deal, but the customer wanted a new case. So wanting to keep the customer happy, I emailed RRA and described the problem. RRA customer service emailed me back next day with this message:

"What is the invoice number on the order? I can replace the case this time

but we are not replacing cases anymore they are put in those cases for

shipping purposes only just for future reference."

I sent the needed info and the case was imediately sent out.

The ad for the RRA special stated the rifle came with "plastic case". So we were discussing this in the shop and some customers felt that the ad said it came with the case so RRA should replace it, others thought it was a shipping case and should not be replaced.  So I was curious as to what you thought.....

PLEASE note I have no grudge with RRA I think their customer service was great. Just curious to see if GD was like the shop and a 50/50 split....

Oh and IBTP  (beat you all to it)

I give away or throw away the cases anyway.  they are not that good.

Yeah I agree, not a big deal. However we try to please the customers so I asked, and thankfully RRA was kind.

If RRA didn't mention it as part of the package, it's just a fancy box.  Damaged, too bad.

If they did mention it in the ad, it's part of the deal. If it arrived damaged they should replace it.

Ad said, "includes case", well then it includes a case....

I think the simplest thing to do is to inform future customers up front exactly what RRA sent you and that if they want a quality case they should purchase it separately.

Includes case.

I'm curious as to what type of case. Was it one of the blue hard plastic ones without foam? Or was it one of the black ones with foam? Either way, if the add said it came with a case. They owe him a case.

It was a generic black case with foam.

The blue cases are damn near bullet proof, and there wouldn't have been any problem.

They should not advertise the $10 plastic case.

Tell the customer he's not worthy of a RRA sticker if he plans on keeping that shit case.

Then sell him a nice Vanguard or at least a bag with a lot of pockets or something.

I would just throw that case away, but if it's advertised with the rifle then they should replace it.

If it was me purchasing the rifle, I would not care about the condition of the "case" they package it in.

However, if the ad said it comes with the case, implying that it is of some value, then it should be delivered in new, undamaged condition.

Tell the buyer before he orders that although RR makes a good rifle and stands behind it, the case is not what he he expects.  Suggest that he will likely want to get a replacement.  Build low expectations, try to deliver more value than expected.

Simple answer. Ad didn't say it was a shipping case. Nore does it imply its comparable to a Stormcase. Get what ya pay fur.

Customers can be such whiners about the most trivial things. That being said, monkey.

You're buying a $1000 rifle, they can give you another shitty plastic case, even if it wasn't advertised.

+1

I work at a RRA dealer we get a few here and there with broken cases , but it is fairly rare

most customers don't care and a few don't want the case anyway or buy something better with the rifle

so I keep the unwanted spares in the back if someone bitched about the broken one

Sounds like shipping damage. RRA should replace it, but the shipper should pay for it.

if it stated that it includes a case they should replace it with out question. (and so they did)
