That's awesome. I sat right beside Greg Maddox's wife and kids at a braves game last year. He was up in the press box. She was very nice.

I watched him, Andy Benes, and I forget the third pitcher play home run derby during spring training in AZ. They were the only three on the field at the time. Loser was buying beers that night . It was pretty funny to watch them talking shit to each other seeing who could hit the most home runs.

Very cool.
An interesting side note is that he chose to be a Diamondback for his HOF plaque. |

I didn't see him standing up. Honestly I will probably see him tomorrow. He is somehow involved in the same event as I am for my daughter. |

By the time he released the ball he was pretty much touching the batter's nose. |

Baseball player? I don't know who he is. Anyway, he was nice enough to smile for a picture with your kid. That's gotta be worth something.

I'll never forget John Kruk facing him in an All Star game. One fastball inside and Kruk said, "fuck this!", stepped over to the other batters box and put his helmet on backwards.

I remember watching his perfect game against my Braves live on TV.

I now realize why he was kind of short with me. One of the ladies we are with congratulated him and she had her phone and he told her he didn't want to take a picture. But I guess he couldn't say no to a seven year old.
He probably thought we were going to make a big deal out of him being there. Nobody really noticed he was there. He watched me for a minute and realized I wasn't paparazzi or a crazed fan and relaxed again. |

That's cool. Treat them like normal people, cuz they are normal people. They just have/had highly visible jobs.

I miss when the All-Star game was a time for the players to have fun.
I always liked Johnson and would have liked to meet him. Playing catch with him would be fun IMO. |

View Quote I agree about the All Star game. It shouldn't mean anything but a fun game. I was a catcher from Pee Wee's through high school and I'd love to catch one fastball from Johnson. Just one would be enough. |

Pretty cool. Funny how he to sit down to get in the picture with your kid
I knew a guy who owned one of his Porsche's. The stick was offset and the seat went back further. Supposedly it was modified at the factory. |

Always struck me as just a good 'ol boy who wanted to be left alone. I get why he may not be the most polite person when he has people making demands on his time.
Seems like he recognized another good 'ol boy and was alright with ya.' Not everyone is like the OP. |

As a Braves fan, I hate him. As a baseball fan, the dude is amazing.

It's funny as shit to see my father's name as the subject of a post on ARFCOM.... hahaha

He was one of my favorite pitchers to watch. He made everything a mental game. I would love to see a "field of dreams" match up between he and Ty Cobb.

He was a neighbor of mine when he played for the Mariners. He and his family kept to themselves most of the time. However, when he was social, he was very friendly...quiet, but pleasant.

That's great, your son will cherish that photo for a long time.

That is so cool. I consider him the best player to ever put on a Diamondback uniform. He gave us many great years.
