Is it illegal for a person to change their race on government documents?
If a person is born of white mother and father can they list their race on government documents as being Latin or Black? Can you legally just change your race? |

Rachael Dolezal certainly made a go of it. Not only did she rise to the position of president of the naacp in Spokane, she filled numerous complains with the Spokane PD alleging hate crimes against her when she claimed to be black. Even more fun is the fact that she sued Howard University in 2002 for discrimination against her when she was still white. |

| I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m fucking retarded but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache” and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding. |

Under federal personnel regulations you are the race that you identify as. I think American Indians have to be able to document their ancestry, though. So what if someone else is required to identify your race/ethnicity ? How is this supposed to be done ? Do you need to ask them what race/ethnicity they identify as ? Serious question. The reason I ask this is that I work as a paramedic. On our documentation, there is a box where you are supposed to identify the patient's race/ethnicity. I asked my boss (the chief) why this is on there and what purpose does it serve. And he told me that it was state mandated and used for statistical purposes. And I told him that I refuse to answer the question because I don't want to be accused of racial profiling. Every single one that I ever did, is marked: race/ethnicity unknown. I would guess that the only real way to answer this question in today's world is to ask the patient themselves what race/ethnicity they self-identify as. Which is going to cause problems when you ask them this question. Especially since every patient I have ever had with this agency has been white (my guess, not validated by asking them). |

Pencil in "Confederate" and lets see how that works. I have been using "European American". If a person is "black", then I am "white". If a person is an "African-American", then I am "European American". We are either talking about skin color or race/ethnicity. I like to be consistent. |

There is no latin. It is Hispanic. And it is an ethnicity, not a race. So, you can have white Hispanics, black Hispanics, etc. And what does that actually mean? See questions 10A & 10B on Fed 4473 Ethnicity is a modifier to race. |
