Duke was diagnosed with cancer on 5/11/15 and put on Prednisone to help fight it and the Vet said he probably only had a couple of months left. The meds reduced the tumors to almost nothing in a couple of days and he was acting like himself again. On Wednesday 6/3 I got home from work and his left front leg was swollen to about 4" in diameter and he was barely mobile. I called the Vet and made the appt to have him put to sleep today. When I got home from work Thursday I found he had passed and was laying in the back yard. He was only 6 years old and is resting next to his brothers Baron and Hershey. Miss you boy.

Sucks man. Your a good companion for doing everything you could to help him through this time. Not everyone understands the relationship between the four legged family and us but those that do have an extra part in life we get to enjoy. You have my thoughts and hope the memories bring joy and not pain.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I was really dreading the trip to the Vet this morning. I'm glad he passed at home even though I couldn't be there for him. This is the 3rd one I've had to bury in the last 5 years. Baron passed of old age at 15 and Hershey at 13. All labs. I'm ready to start looking for another so my rescue Angus has a buddy. He seems to miss Duke also. He hasn't been eating much the last few days. I can't really bring a new a new one home yet since I have a vacation out of the country at the end of August and don't want my house sitter to have to deal with a new pup. Getting dusty just typing this.

It's not fair. They're with us too briefly anyway. To lose one even sooner sucks. Sorry OP.
