We lost the Focus back in 2018 but it lived on in other markets. It's officially axed after 27 years.

My daughter bought an '08 Focus in 2019 and drove it for five years. It was a cheap but fine car.

First new car I bought was a 2000 ZX3 two door hatchback with manual windows and trans. It was around $12k iirc.

They had some fun factor to them. It's a shame SUVs are so dominant in the American market. They suck.

Another decent car Ford mechanically fvcked over with crap engineering.

Upper management 100% KNEW the transmission [auto] wasn't ready for roll out due to drivability and mechanical issues before they OK'ed it anyways.

I worked with a guy for 26 years that owned two Ford Focus during that time.
He drives 90 miles a day round trip and is still driving the second Focus.
First one had almost 400K miles.

Yeah but they eventually fixed it! Oh yeah....

We "fixed" ours by trading in that lump of shit. It wasn't JUST the transmission, BTW. The last straw was the rack and pinion that would just randomly lose power assist and the service manager who told us it could be "fixed" for $2300 or so and there's absolutely no guarantee that it wouldn't come back.

They WERE able to fix the "imploding ga tank" issue, though, so I guess there's that.

They extended the warranty on the TCM to 150k, but you had to pull a code for defective TCM at a service department. The codes are kept in volatile memory and never survived the tow to the dealer. That was a nice little "fuck you" from Ford.

I’ve been driving Focuses since 2004. They have been good to me. Any last gen ones had the 6 speed and not the DCT… mainly just because I wanted the ST or RS at that point.  It’s a shame the DCT was a POS, otherwise they were good cars for what they are.

Cheap cars for sure. But they served me well.

Just parked my 2006 ford focus I bought in November of 06. Drove 70 mile commute everyday.  Has 330k miles and still runs and drives.  Driving a 2016 focus hatchback now. It's small but a decent driver.

The issue was that late in the development cycle they demanded to engineering that it feel more like a conventional automatic.  Things like slipping the clutch at stop lights so it would creep forward.  Those late calibration changes are what really fucked it.

The first and only new vehicle I ever bought was a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3.  It had a 5 speed manual and was a hatchback.  It was weird having because the first few months I had it I kept getting asked what it was.  It was super easy to break into also. You could slide a coat hanger through the door seal and push the hatch release that was on the dash right beside the window.  it was a fun little car.

Not my pic but exactly like this.

I had a 2014 Focus St, bought new and put 120k mile on it before I sold it. Put in a LSD, full mounts, chassis braces, full tune, that car was a blast.

Really sad seeing "cheap" cars that can be tuned disappear. It is going to kill innovation and creativity in the future.

I had one for a few years, and I liked it. Had to get rid it when no one could get the parts to fix it during Covid. It was a daily, and i couldn't be bothered to wait indefinitely.

A few years ago, when we were buying the wife an SUV, guy at the Ford dealer said they were phasing out cars altogether, because no one wanted cars any more. He said FMC was going to go all SUV, except for the Mustang. Soon after that, they introduced that abomination with the Mustang badge on it. I won't buy another Ford. I already traded one for a Toyota. We only have one left, and it won't be replaced with another Ford when its time comes.

I'll keep my old one, because it's sentimental.

Sold a ton of them used. They were a perfectly fine commuter car.

Focus was a great model in many ways. Peeps forget it was the Escorts replacement- almost continued the nameplate. But it's a better vehicle than many give credit.

That appears to be the current Modeo. It's a Changan Ford product, which is marketed as the Taurus in Middle East. C2 platform IIRC, as was Focus.

Those and the older full size CD4 Taurus that used to be produced by Changan aren't uncommon rental cars in Saudi Arabia.

Given the Fusion went away with prejudice, I don't see it returning to the States.

The original Focus won awards in almost every market. It was a good car for the time. The DCT was a nod to the way EU FE rules of the time favored DCTs and manuals over TC automatics. Everyone knew it was a risk to bring it here. The same DCT that Euros thought was just fine was too much of a change for American consumers over TC autos in drivability. VW got their arse handed to them in the US at about the same time in the US over DCTs, and took the humiliating move of buying Aisin TC automatics for many years as a remedy, while keeping DCTs in GTi/GLi because enthusiasts liked what most consumers didn't.

I worked closely for a time with the guy who ran the Focus program from start until a few years after launch. Very good engineer, but GD would not appreciate his politics.

The SVT and the ST170 were very solid handlers. Brilliant? Maybe not but for price and package pretty damn compelling. Possibly didn't get the love because Honda and VW were packing more ponies.

The RS was the RS. Shame the States didn't see the Mk 1.  But few appreciated as much as they should when it showed. Prolly price. Should have been the Ford Racing Focus but guess the poor response to Ford Racing Puma killed that.

That Puma is the most underrated Ford wrong wheel driver evah in my estimation tho.

Whats going on with Europe?  Fiesta and Mondeo go, Capri a shit show, Saarlouis/Germany too expensive amd shuttered? so fall back to VB&A and some kind of Kuga+ SUV? Electrified? What the fuck happened to the hybrid development. Was spitting over Boreham in '03 but at least I could understand. Here seems they've simply lost thier way.

Still have the car in my avatar.

I started selling fords the year after they did away with the SVT focus and could never find one to take in on trade. I had an 03 hatchback focus that was the toughest car ever built I think.

The last ST in europe is a wagon and it's awesome looking. I'd love to import one when the time comes.

I went shopping for a decent commuter a few months ago.  A non-ecoboost standard transmission Focus was the goal, but everything I could find for a decent price were gross cars, Ecoboosts, and autos.

Ended up finding a good Toyota.

I think the 1st and 2nd gen Focus were always kind of underrated.

I spent a lot of time in rental cars in the 2009-2011 time frame, most of those were compacts, and of those compacts, the Focus was one of the best.

I found it to be much better than the Corolla, Cobalt, Sentra, Impreza, etc from that era.

The Focus was a surprisingly good car to drive, and they seemed to hold up to a lot of abuse.

For that era, I think I'd put the Civic and the Focus's cousin from Mazda ahead of it, but I'd take a Focus over the rest of the field.

The 3rd gen Focus? Too many bad stories there.
