I just snagged one of these phones and a plan from Cingular. How the heck do I connect this thing to my PC. I have a USB data cable that fits just fine. I plug it into the phone and my PC detects a Motorola V3. However, it can't find any kind of softare/driver to install the phone correctly. I've installed Motorola Mobile Tools, and when I try to connect it via USB it says it's setting up the phone, works for a few minutes, and the goes back to the menu where I pick what kind of connection to use. I tried a friend's bluetooth adapter as well, and it while it found the phone and connected, it gave me a communication port installation error when I tried to access it. Is there a driver I can download to at least get the phone installed on my computer? What am I doing wrong? Help? |
When you installed " phone tools" did you already have your phone plugged into so that your computer recognized the phone first? .. I think I remember uninstalling the software and reloading it once or twice.. its been a while but you might try that? |
Phone tools were already installed before the phone was plugged in.

Make your own ringtones, upload your pictures , download pictures of your screensavers , you can send text messages thru your phone on your computer. thats about it I think |
the phone will not hook up as a device under windows... <usb> you need motorola phone tools... can be found on bearshare reread your 1st post .. you already have MPT .. you sound like you need the drivers for it give me a miunte .. ill see if they are on my other computer... |
e did ! doh, you adressed it already |

MPT is goofy. You MUST install and update the software before plugging the phone in. If you don't, windows will try to install and find a driver for the device, and you'll have to remove that device from windows before the software can work. After installation, make sure that the MPT software is updated. Then, launch the program, when it comes up with the "detecting phone" window, then plug the phone in to the cable. That usually works for me.
If it's not the Motorola cable you may have problems. YMMV. |
Don't feel bad. The screen on mine goes completely blank sometimes...that is, whenever you open it and all the text isn't backwards and upside down. Yeah, glad I got a new phone.
