I have a lot of pics in RAW that I need to convert to jpg, but I cannot locate the CD that came with the camera and downloading from Canon's site leaves me with a 'read me' note and an uninstall feature.

Any good downloads for this.  And will NOT require a huge water mark?

Did you try using the uninstall feature and then see if it would let you re-install?

All Adobe's programs are available as a 30 day trial version. If you just need current files done, and not more as time goes by, that would work.

If you do a lot of photography (especially RAW processing), I believe Lightroom is well worth the price. I don't know how it compares, but if you use a Mac, I believe Aperture is a similar program.

If you do decide to try (or use) Lightroom, I'd HIGHLY recommend going through some video tutorials. I actually thought the program was a piece of crap when I first tried it, as I didn't have a clue what to expect out of the program.

Here's a series of video tutorials that should get you up and running in about an hour or two (this is for version 1, but lightroom 2 behaves the same, with some minor changes):

I am pretty sure both Gimp and Picassa will do this.

Bear in mind that all RAW converters do so differently. Some work better with nature/landscapes. Others work better with portraits because of how they render skin tones. I suggest you try several before picking one.

are you shooting a lot in RAW?  or is this just a random batch of photos in RAW that you want to work with?

if you plan on shooting a lot in RAW, I suggest you invest in either Adobe Lightroom (mac or pc) or Aperture (mac only).  They have really good raw support as well as "non-destructive" editing at both a basic level as well as a more advanced level.  Very good programs and very easy to use.  There are also a few good "how to" books out there that can give you all kinds of tips and tricks (in particular, check out Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom 2.0).

if this is just a one-time conversion you need done, feel free to email me the batch of files and I can convert them for you.
