| How would you feel about doing unarmed car stops? |
|
Quoted:
no way... but..it is funny to point out to your fellow cop that he has left his gun in the trunk of his car after leaving the jail when you back him up on a stop and see the look on his face LOL, that's happened to everyone hasn't it. Except me, I have never done it myself. |

It couldn't or it would never happen?

Looked like a revolver to me. Suicide by cop? It was a firearm that he pointed at the cop out of frame of the camera. That's why the officer fired. I believe it's a wheelgun. The individual had a lengthy criminal history. A convenience store had been robbed nearby when this stop took place. Read the expanded comments at the link. It was a good shoot. |

I read about his criminal history, but the way he just stands there with the gun after exiting the vehicle and just walking up to the officer instead of coming out of the car with it raised to fire is what makes it seem like suicide by cop. |

Or, his "thought processes" were completely muddled by whatever the post mortem toxicology tests found in his system. In any case, pointing the gun at the cop = DRT, and a good shoot. |

That could also be it. That was an absolutely good shoot. |

To clarify the original post.
It was asked in all seriousness. There are Police agencies, in this Country, that are unarmed and conduct V&T stops. I am aware that V&T stops are one of the most dangerous aspects of police work. Just curious about how other LEO's might feel about having to do them unarmed. Personally, I think it's bat shit nuts. |

Not calling B.S., but can you name any? Even the part time park rangers who patrol the local metroparks here on golf carts are armed, as well they should be. Cops need adequate sidearms, and tactical rifles in their patrol vehicles. |

Uh, I'm gonna say no.
I'll further and say I would not do my job at all without at least a sidearm. I'm not worried about a majority of the public hurting me....it's the minority, typically the majority we deal with, that will. You never know if you are getting the majority or the minority you are getting on a traffic stop or any sort of contact really. |

You would be wrong....I am an OMH Officer. |

NY State OMH Police That's a bit disingenuous I'm afraid. ..."filling out motor vehicle accident reports and performing motor vehicle accident investigations within state grounds"... ...is quite a bit different than doing traffic stops on public roads and highways. |
