I have a Nissan 350Z with a manual transmission.

I recently had the transmission fluid drained and replaced. The last couple of days when I've been driving it, it kinda seems like it is a little harder to shift and just barely grinding (like one click) when I shift into second gear and sometimes when I shift into third.

Is this a result of them not putting enough fluid in, or is it a result of them not using the correct fluid?

That is a syncromesh tranny I believe. I think they require a specific fluid, and possibly some sort of friction modifier.

Who did it? I'd imagine it's supposed to have ATF in it and peanuts for brains put in 80/90 gear oil. It'll ruin it due to improper lubrication pretty quickly.

If they put the wrong type of lubricant in it then get an independant shop to verify and document it.

ETA - Yep, that's exactly what they did was put 80w-90 gear oil in it.

SHIT! So now what do I do? I haven't driven the car more than 20 miles since I had it back yet, and I obviously won't want to take the car back to them.

They probably filled it with red wine.

Christian Brothers is the name of a major winery in northern Cali.

OK, so I did a Google search and it appears that it is supposed to use 75W-85 oil.

The mechanic put 80w-90 in according to the bill.

So is that going to burn out my transmission?

It didn't hurt anything. Just drain, and replace with the correct fluid, drive, and repeat.

Really? Last one I had used ATF, anyways, 80-90 should be OK as long as you're in a temperate climate zone. Pull the fill plug and check to see if it was filled to the bottom of it.

Order up some    and change it yourself.  It will shift like butter.
