[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Question for LEOs (Page 1 of 4)

While hanging out at the local dealer of death on my lunch break I witnessed two cops ask for LEO discount to which the response was "no". One guy completed his transaction while the other said that he would not be buying from a shop that doesn't support law enforcement, or some BS along those lines.
Anyway, why do LEOs expect mom & pop businesses to give them special pricing? Mom & Pop have bills to pay just the same as cops. |
|
Give me a moment, It takes a bit to warm up the mind reading abilities to find out what some guy on the other end of the country is thinking. While we are waiting, Why do folks in GD always start threads asking for coupons and discounts then refuse to shop at places that don't do it? For that matter, why does GD boycott businesses that don't want some fuckstick to carry a long gun around the dining area? |

Even in your anecdotal example, 50% of LE is fine with paying the asking price. Fuck it man, I'd ask for a Voice Network Engineer discount if I thought it would work.

Most gun shops give LE discounts. Now someone will start a thread boycotting shops that give LEO discounts. The two main gun shops I buy from one gives a discount the other does not. It's not much maybe $20 or so. |

Anyway, why do LEOs expect mom & pop businesses to give them special pricing? How is that a jump. Do LEOs expect to receive discounts at certain businesses or do they not? My opinion is if they did not expect it, they would not ask for it. Kind of like senior citizens and their discounts. |

One of the local ranges the yearly membership fee is something like $325 the LE/MIL price is $275. |

Why does .mil folks ask discounts, why senior citizens discounts, paying with cash instead of credit discounts? Everybody wants to save a dollar.
I don't ask for LE discounts at places that I don't know if the do or don't. I just won't ask and pony up whatever the cost is. I do buy from places that offer them though and it was known to me at the time that they do. Not sure LE expect discounts but it's no secret that certain places like gun shops offer discounts to LE & military people. |

the thread directly above this one. Heck of a deal. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1655276_Deal_Alert__AAC_Evolution_9mm_Suppressor____306_before__200_AAC_credit_.html |

Do most shops give their own special pricing to LE/Mil, or are we talking about manufacturer discounts, like Glock's Blue Label deal? Most smaller places that have free coffee or discounts or whatever are trying to attract an LE presence. Gas stations, etc. |

GD members on the other hand are why they like having cops around. |

It's just something a lot of businesses do. Like stop & robs who offer free coffee to LE, in hopes that the dudes on shift stop by more often. That kind of thing. |

It's shitty, rude, unprofessional and unethical. You should always walk up to the register expecting to pay full price. If a discount is offered, say thank you and give the difference in tip. Yep, I always make up the difference with the tip. Reminds me of my experience as a young slick-sleeved rookie..... Me and my training Officer stopped in a café to get a cup of coffee. Back in the day, it was 10 cents a cup. The waitress told us there was no charge for police officers. As we got up to leave, Harvey placed a quarter on the table. When we got in the car, I asked him why he did that, as the coffee was free. He said, "Because some day I may have to go in there and arrest someone and I don't want them to think that I "owe" them anything. Harvey was the best cop I ever met. |
| Before I was a cop, I had a summer job at a sandwich place. I was excited to give the discount because I appreciated police officers and respected the job they did. It is a throwback from the days when people weren't shoehorned into thinking that police are horrible "Kings Men" entitled jack booted thugs etc. etc. etc. Dont worry OP, with the amount of misguided anger towards police these days, it will be a practice that is soon forgotten. |
