Could a complete idiot somehow put a .45-70 cartridge into a revolver chambered for .454 Casull/.45 Long Colt? What about the other way around, say, putting .454 into a BFR chambered for .45-70?

Come on, somebody's got to have a story of some idiot who bought the wrong ammo...

Also, why is it every .45LC revolver I've ever seen is six shot but the only six shot .454 revolver I know of is the Ruger Super Redhawk and all the others are five shot?

Because Ruger doesnt build revolvers, it develops lead spitting monsters.

Case length of a 45-70 is 2.105, case length of a .454 Casull is 1.383, no way would the cylinder of a .454 Casull revolver be long enough to fit a 45-70.

Also,Case diameter of a 45-70 is .480 at the mouth, .505 at the base, case diameter of a .454 Casull is .477, no way would a larger diameter 45-70 fit into a .454 Casull chamber.

And, a 45-70 takes a .458 diameter bullet, a .454 Casull uses a .451 diameter bullet.

As to using a .454 Casull in a 45-70 revolver, the rim on a .454 Casull is .512 in diameter, the rim on a 45-70 is .608, the .454 Casull would slide forward in the larger diameter 45-70 chamber, so far that the firing pin would'nt even hit the primer.

I own a 5-shot .45colt.

I love it dearly, and it's built that way for the same reason the FA .454s are, it puts the bolt notches between the chambers, so the cylinder wall is much stronger.

It will shoot the same loads as a Ruger .45 blackhawk, but it's the size of a single six.

The Ruger .454 would be destroyed by loads the FA  83 would eat a steady diet of without trouble.

My little FA97 kicks harder than a full house 454 FA83 with full power loads, but it's my favorite handgun, sweet to carry, very accurate, light, big punch.
