Why has the Colombian government along with the help of the US not been able to smash FARC into the pages of history?

They have been running around in the bush for almost 40 years now, are considered a terrorist group by the State Dept, and continue to push coke for their own profits to move their anti american and pro marxist thoughts thoughout latin america.

One reason is the Colombian government is corrupt as hell. FARC has the cash and knows who to keep on their 'payroll'.

My wife is from Colombia and basically says the same thing, not to mention there is a portion of the Colombian population that supports FARC.

There are remote parts of Colombia that are entirely controlled by FARC.

I think the Uribe Government is really making headway against FARC, his father was killed by FARC. Many of the past presidents tried negotiations, which of course doesn't work.

He probably does now...

Originally they were a Soviet-supported group....

Then they became narco-terrorists, working with whatever cartels weren't aligned with the anti-FARC paramilitaries...

Almost sound like Pakistan.  Entire regions that are off limits to the federal powers.
