I almost stepped on this in my front yard.  It is approximately 24" long.  It is slow moving, so far.  I am about to dispatch it with my Walther P-22 and some .22lr shotshells, unless someone can tell me this snake turns lead into gold or only bites democrats or something equally useful.

HURRY!  Time is of the essence.

HERE ARE THE AFTER PICS.  I used three CCI shotshells on it from point blank range.

If its' head is triangular in shape or if'n it's gots a rattle it's a viper, that's all I know about snakes man....  Sorry about the non-help in this area dude.

I thought a copperhead, but the marks are all wrong for around here. They all taste good though. Bon appetit!

Bingo, kill it, then run your weedeater around your property, just on the off chance of cute little copperhead babies running around.

Hard to tell without a good look at the head.
Looks a little like a water snake in the cottonmouth family, but a bit too brown (although the markings are real close)

If it has a triangle shaped head and segmented eyes, its a viper.

EDITED TO SAY:

We want before and AFTER pics

It's a rat snake so leave it alone.

Not a Copperhead or Cottonmouth.

I was gonna say Corn Snake...And it might be a Bull Snake.... but I cant see the head.
It's probably harmless.

Yeah , I was gonna say it's a rat snake but you've already sent it to snake heaven so . Anyway , if you have young kids , kill it then show them what will happen to them if they step out of line! Just kidding. Take care. Coondog

It will be more harmless when its dead

Well, if it was harmless, I feel kind of bad.  I do not kill for pleasure or anything.  In fact, this is the first living thing I have ever shot with a firearm.

However, with three kittens, two cats, a small dog, and a three month old baby in the house, I didn't want to take any chances.

Harmless snake. I understand your wanting to protect the family, pets, and all, but you killed a benefical snake.

My rant: Every time I see something like this on the forum, I think about the hunter that shoots into the bushes because he thinks there is a deer in them. I happen to love snakes, (not many poisonous ones here in the states) so please learn to identify the poisonous ones, and leave the rest alone.

Red rat snake or Corn snake... harmless and actually will keep other unwanted vectors out of the AO -- Make a note of those that called it a Copperhead and NEVER go hikng with them ;)

Yes, they vary greatly in color, and pattern.
There are red ones, albino, black, stripped, ect.

Negative, I just don't hunt.  I don't kill for fun, either.  I have no problem with hunting or killing for food, I just don't do it myself.  Nor am I a tree-hugging PETA type, either.

As for the laser on my P-22, I picked it up at a local shop for $80, and it is manufactured by Walther, so I would imagine it would be on their website.  I like it because it is a flush fit, with no rattle, like most other light/laser accessories.

Also, by the way, I am not afraid of snakes.  I came so close to stepping on this one, though, that I had to jump over it to keep from falling.  Spiders are a different story, of course.

Is that Walthers expensive laser add-on? Where and how much did you get it?

Looks like a bull snake.  I used to catch them for pets when I was growing up.  Once they get used to you, they're pretty tame.

Catch live mice and feed them every couple of weeks.  Too bad for that one.  They keep the rodents down.  I could use a few around my house.

Its a Rat Snake , Looks to be a Gray Rat  , I used to catch them all the time when I lived in FL .
Next time catch it alive , you can sell them to pet stores for $50-75 or more depending on the market .
Green Rat's can fetch $200+ .

My cousin lost a big hunk of meat on his leg to a bull snake bite... Those fuckers carry eleventy billion different kinds of disease. Plus it can be damn difficult to tell a rat snake from a copperhead or bulls from diamondbacks.

If it bothers you that he killed it (humanely I might add). I suggest you IM me your email addie and I will paypal you 50 cents so you can buy a clue.

Sheesh! Some people! His kid probably plays in that yard

That snake he just killed eats mice, rats and other "vermin". Let's see how well your cousin fares after getting bit by a rat.

Psst! My guess is that he can take care of his own rats... You can act like you knew that yourself if ya want. I won't tell.

ETA: You can play like bulls and corn snakes aren't aggressive toward humans… (like his kid) I won't let that cat out of the bag either.
