The other religious thread made me wonder...why do all the major religions seem so close to each other?  I mean, the Prometheus story is damn close to the Adam and Eve story.

Seems there has to be a bit of truth in there somewhere...

Well the three main religions now Christianity, Judaism and Islam basically all come from the same Old Testament.

The far Eastern religions are very differant and don't come from the same base religion.

But for the most part they all come from common myths and stories of the far, far past.

I think that the Great Flood was most likely based on a ture event.

Maybe not all animals two by two and a group of people who where hundreds of years old, end of the world type thing.

But all the ancient cultures, make mention of a great flood that happened about 10-12K years ago.

When Lake Missoula broke and flooded everything from Montana to the Washington Coast, I imagine the people who saw that, probably had some words like "God Damn..." to say about it.

Then the did some rain dances and sacrificed some deer and stomped on the ground real hard about it.

Yes, that and "Day Star", "Son of the Morning Star"  I think there is also something about "Brightest"  his light was the brightest of the Angels.

I think you would have to consult the second Book of Enoch to get the original expanded story of the war in heaven.

It details more about who the other Angels were, Lilith, Adam and Eve.

Christianity is well known for stealing stories, holy sites, and holidays from other religions then changing a few names. Doesn't necessarily mean any of it is true.

Most early civilizations were located near water, so it stands to reason that many of them would have a story that involved a flood, for instance. It doesn't follow that Noah's flood was an actual event. More likely that someone adapted a Sumerian myth to appeal to early Jews.

They're polytheistic religions where Gods do not take human form and have all kinds of wild and crazy stories about how shit got made. They have a bunch of different principals and belief systems, which is a large part of the reason that to this day the Eastern Mind thinks completely differently from the westerners.

The Jewish faith has roots in the Ancient Egyptian religion. This is not surprising since Moses spent his entire life as an Egyptian prince before leading the Jews out of Egypt and founding a new religion. Christianity is an offshoot of the Jewish faith, and Islam came along about a thousand years later to challenge them, by borrowing heavily off of them. The Hebrew faith predates Greek culture by something like 1,000 years or so, and since the Hebrew faith is based on the Egyptian faith, and since the Greeks collected the knowledge of all of the civilizations that preceded them, it isn't surprising Greek fables sound like Hebrew fables, since they're all based on Egyptian fables.

Yeah, it all came from the same the place though, ancient leaders who desired to dominate and chose to use fables to make people believe they could interpret the will of the gods, and were empowered by the gods.

Genesis 6 ––-there were angels who rebeled came down to earth and had women ––who gave birth to giants ––this is the truth of the myths and legends ––the "gods" are fallen angels .

this is in many cultures worldwide.

the greek "gods" are even identified in the Holy Bible which is GODS WORD as fallen angels in at least 2 places

Revelation 9:11 says that a fallen angel has his name in greek as " apollyon" = apollo.

revelation 2:13 identifies satans seat as being in pergamos ––-this refers to none other than the " altar of zeus" ––- which the germans took and also the russians took from the germans––-it is covered with friezes of the "gods" and the "giants" ––satans heyday  before the flood ––

BTW the end will be like it was in Noah's Day!

If you read a good translation of Dante's Inferno, you get a lot of good insight into how the Greek / Roman myth started to transition into the images many Christians think of when they picture Heaven and Hell, especially Hell, full of demons and different punishments.

None of that shit's in the Bible, but they believe it anyway.  All just inherited myth.

That's a pretty blanket statement lumping everything together because it doesn't agree with your religion.

Some of the others (Judaism for one) don't believe that you get to go to Heaven, you're not allowed, no matter what you do, or who you believe in.

In Buddism, they don't believe in Heaven, they believe in Nirvana.

And in the old Greek mythology everyone goes to Hades, it just a matter how much of an asshole you were in life, that determines if it is going to suck more or less for you.

And in Christianity, particullarly Catholism, you could for a time, buy your way in or now you just say a bunch of Hale Mary's and do some sort of penance...

Then in Islam, all you have to do is kill yourself during Jihad by running some planes into a building and then you get 72 virgins and all the young boys you can get your fill of.

And people wonder why the world is so fucked up.

More specifically...

Genesis 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of
it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

He didn't want them to eat it because he didn't want them to die spiritually, which they did by eating it. Before they ate the fruit of the tree, they walked with God every day in the garden and spoke with him face to face. After they disobeyed by eating of the fruit which they were told not to eat of, they no longer saw God face to face, and they passed the sin nature on to their descendants...fallen man.

There are much deeper meanings in the story, and if you really want to know more, there is plenty written about what happened, and what it means to us today.

Starting with Adam and Eve, God created each of us with a free will...we can obey Him and his commandments, or we can go our own way and suffer the consequences of it. The choice is ours...
