US covert research program for behavioral engineering of humans codename Project MKUltra.
Through the use of illegal drugs such as LSD and isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, torture, hypnosis and sensory deprivation the CIA worked through 80 different institutions including colleges and universities on unwitting US citizens to try and develop brainwashing, mind control and effective forms of interrogation and torture. Included in the project were Nazi scientist employed for the U.S. government through Operation Paperclip of whom had studied methods of torture and mind control for the Third Reich. Officially halted in 1973 and brought before congress through the findings of the Church Committee in 1975 chaired by Senator Frank Church. The Church Committee was investigating illegal activities by the CIA, NSA, and FBI after activities were being brought to light by the Watergate Scandal. Among the findings was revelations about the U.S. spying on its own citizens . As a result of these findings, The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA Court) was passed in congress as recommended by the Church committee to help rein in abuse of power. Kind of interesting huh? Makes a person wonder just what goes on behind closed doors today. |

i wouldn't worry about LSD. doesn't exactly turn you into a peace loving hippie or a total nutjob (unless you're already predisposed to mental illness, then it might bring it on faster). now - the modern day pharmaceuticals - who knows about THOSE.... |
| Look at the similarities of what was going on then compared to what is going on now. Very similar. A presidential scandal leading to investigations that turned up NSA , CIA overreaching the constitution and performing illegal spying and even experimenting on citizens. History comes back around full circle and repeats itself. |
