Any other first responders have problems with geocaching containers being reported as bombs? We have had more than a few recently and it really disrupts the flow when you have to set a cordon and wait for EOD to blow up a cache full of DVDs or trinkets. ![]() I try to tell people who do this in suburban areas to clearly mark their containers and NOT contruct them out of PVC or metal pipes. Some of the people putting these things near parks, little leage fields, pulic buildings, etc... are not really using the best judgement. Anyone seeing these more? read more on geocaching here: www.geocaching.com/ |
| We had one reported as a bomb. It was made out of army ammo can. The bomb squad x-rayed it and thought the spiral on the notebook was a spring. They blew it up and sent tootsie rolls and smarties everywhere. Chief talked to the person and recommended putting it in a clear container, don't know what happened after that. It was a Charlie Foxtrot, blocking off two roads and evacing homes... all for tootsie rolls in an ammo can. |
