Ya , as the topic states....

Here it goes. I recently upgraded my pistol with a new hammer, firing pin, trigger and new grips. It was my first time. Anyway, after installing the parts and putting the pistol back together, I headed to the range yesterday I wanted to get a feel for the new trigger and grips. I slip a magazine into the well and while muzzle is down range. I push the slide release and BOOM.

At first I thought that the trigger was super light and I somehow managed to hit the trigger upon release. I finish the magazine and I'm overall pleased with everything. Then I put another magazine into the well and manually pull the slide back and release. I take aim and squeeze the trigger then boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. 5 rounds at full auto.... OMG WTF just happened. I look around and none takes notice, so a pack the pistol away and get the hell out of dodge.

I get home and take the pistol apart, I realize that somehow someway, I bent the sear spring.... and it was dropping the hammer and firing pin on slide release and also not catching when I fired it.... Oh boy. I put a new spring into it and did a function check, it's fine now....

Hide your dog, they'll be at your front door soon.

Yeah, it was nice knowing you.  I would ask for your guns but I don't want them to come to my house and kill any of my pets.

When I muck with trigger parts, I always start with one round in the mag, then two, then goto a fuller mag.

Firefoxammo,

What range do you go to? I go to High Rock. Usually it's during the week.

I will do that next time....Anyway, it was not the trigger...I't was a bent sear spring... If you look at the spring, out of the three fingers, the middle one was bent up a little and not catching into the slot.  I learned my lesson

This is why 1911's get bad raps.  Every Johnny Home Gunsmith mucks around with his.  (No offense to you, Firefox, of course.  We all make mistakes).

But my stock Kimber has never given me trouble.  I guess when the only mods you make are skateboard tape on the frontstrap, it's hard to screw up internals.

Did you do a function check before you went to the range and loaded it up with live ammo? Anytime I pull any part of the trigger/hammer/sear/safety/FP/disco etc. assy I always do a full function check before live ammo goes near the weapon. It's also why I don't personally try to lighten the trigger by merely bending springs. [lightening]

You should have quit shooting as soon as you had a AD. Until the slide and BBL is in battery the weapon should not be able to fire nor the hammer drop, that should have told you right there that there was a serious problem.

Glad you had it pointed downrange and nothing serious happened. ALWAYS function check a weapon UNLOADED.
