A friend has one that he bought for 150 bucks, I've seen it and it's nice. It's for sale now and he offered to me first so I offered him $500 which I cant afford but I can spend.
 I can spend more money that I can't afford, that's why God invented credit cards. What's this rifle worth? 150 (what he paid) is beyond a steal. 500 (what I'm offering) is a steal. How high should I go? |

SPRINGFIELD 1896 KRAG .30-40 rifle, very good orig. stock, and very good bore, 80% orig. barrel blue, and xlnt receiver heat treat blue/gray, s/n 873xx $1095 If it's in reaaally good shape, $500 is definitely a nice price. Get it Cap - you NEED a Krag. Best (smoothest) action ever made followed by teh K31 and then Lee Enfields. |

What kind of Krag? Rifle or Carbine?
Cut down or full length? sporterized or not? refinished or not? drilled & tapped or not? More info needed. |

If it is indeed an all original rifle, $500 would be a really good price. I picked one up at auction a few months back for $400, a 1900-dated Model 1898. |

You need to do a BUNCH of research on this one! Krag values are all over the place. And as previously stated if it has had ANY permantent sporterizing done to it the value drops dramatically. |

If it is an original uncut Krag (a lot of these were sporterized and used a hunting rifles) $500 is a very good price. I would check out the bore. Uncut rifles were not usually as well treated as sporterized ones and many have issues with bore condition. Mine had a rough bore but actually shot pretty good. With a good bore, these go for $800 and up in New York state.
