Went to the gun shop today by Willow Grove N.A.S. I figured out pretty quickly by the police every 100 yards along Rte. 611 that the Pres. must be in town. I'm not exactly sure how they flew a 747 over my house without me hearing it, maybe they landed from the NW which they rarely do. Anyhow, I made it to the light before the store when the police stepped out and closed the road. I really wanted to make it to the store, I thought if i'm going to see the Pres. it might be cool to be standing under the gun store sign.  Instead saw him from a Mobil lot by myself. I didn't think i'd actually see him so I wasn't waving when they went by, but then there he was in the back window waving at 50 mph so I gave him a thumbs up. The lineup was, a state police helicopter,  three state police motorcycles, a state police car, a limo, his limo , a van with side door open and obvious secret service, several press vans, an ambulance, and what I found interesting, three large windowless vans bringing up the rear with guys dressed in dark clothing and the side and rear doors open a crack like someone was holding them shut from the inside. Pretty cool thinking what they could bring to bear on a hostile target out of those vans very quickly. I was stuck there about a half hour. I was speaking to one of the officers and evidently they close the whole route he'll be driving before he starts. It makes sense but I thought they just clear the route as they go. My question is, does anyone know what they do with the limo's after he flies off? In hindsight I remember a C-17 landing there this weekend, which is rare for here. Do they ship them like that?

To my knowledge, the Presidential Limos fly in a C130 to where ever GW goes. And he travels a lot!

They ship his limo and the secret service vehicles in AF transports. Usually C17's but sometimes C5's depending on how large the motorcade is. His campaign bus is driven from place to place. It will fit on a C5 but they don't transport it at our expense since it is a campaign vehicle and not used for his duties as President. AF1 even has a seperate telephone used for campaign related calls so the billing goes to the right account.

The vans were present when the motorcade arrived at the Convention. That was exactly my thought - a whole platoon of hard-hitting mofos in there. Sweet.

GWB has made several stops in Ohio during this campaign.Last time he ws in town, I got to tour AF1 while it was parked at Hopkins Intl. Airport in Cleveland. Most of my co-workers were all working the detail while I was sitting in the Presidents chair On our way up I71 we saw the motorcade getting on the highway to go south. We knew the time was near when we stopped seeing Southbound traffic. There were marked and unmarked cruisers all the way along the route from every agency around. All intersections are blocked off as they approach and the motorcade does not stop for traffic control devices. I suppose that cuts the travel time quite a bit. North of where they entered I71, traffic was backed up for a couple of miles. It must have been that way for a while. Everyone was standing around outside of their cars.

He was in my hometown last week,  shit load of State patrol cars and a couple of DC park police Broncos, 7 buses, some (4 or 5) SS suburbans, more state patrol cars and the Cube van with doors proped open and operator on the starboard side with a M4 and a guy in the back with a belt-fed. over the top of us was a Blackhawk and a state patrol helos...........makes you think just how important the president really is

One thing I noticed  even though the whole city knew he was coming.......they sure were hauling ass driving down main street

When I was in DC for the innaguration, I saw Cheney's motorcade go by...

The VP was in the back seat of the middle vehicle (they were all suburbans) and each one had a guy with an M4 riding 'shotgun' with the window down....

I've seen the motorcade move a few times.  They involve the local LE enough to make them feel like they did something.  I'm about 200% sure all they do is deter the redneck idiots.  If the Chief is stopping to talk, our boys do a lot of groundwork beforehand.

We're lucky as Americans to realize that the fate of the entire world rests on the shoulders of our Leader.  We've got the economy, we've got the money.

It's really neat to watch the direct air support our upper eschelon of gov't receive.

Short story long, we're the most supreme nation on the planet and those who hate us don't have a chance.   We were pretty lax until H Jr. popped his shots back at 40 but we've come a long way since then..

My brother has done some press travel in the Bush motorcade and he said that when possible they have helicoptor gunships and fighter air cover in the area.

When GWB was in town a month ago, our whole department was denied days off.  Even though we were there and I was within arms reach of the campaign bus, I also got the feeling we were only there to make us feel like we were involved.  It was apparent to me that we were not needed in the least.  I did get an up close look at one of the SS communications suburbans that was here for a few days prior to GWB's arrival.  That thing was pretty damn sweet.  Obviously heavy duty, damn think had lugnuts all the way around the wheel and supposedly had bullet resistent glass and kevlar panels in the body.  more radio equipment inside than I could believe.   Looked like they could talk to the International Space Station if they wanted to.  All in all it was a very cool experience.

Yeah, a beltfed was the impression I got when the last van went by with his back door slightly ajar. I guess it wouldn't be smart to try to catch them from behind. Thanks for the info on shipping the limo's. I'm guessing they have 2 sets of limo's to leapfrog ahead of Air Force 1 so they're ready as soon as he touches down. It seems like too much trouble to load them up after each stop and get them to the next location and unloaded before he arrives. I heard he was on his way to Pittsburgh after he left my area.

The President's Limo is usually flown in an Air Force support aircraft.  In addition, each major Secret Service field office has a limo assigned to them for other VIP's that might get protection in their area.  That limo could be used as a backup.

Presidential motorcades are a pain, disrupting traffic flow around our plant everytime they fly into Lambert field.

The latter, if CAT, would've been right behind the secondary limo and primary limo - they wouldn't be hanging behind the media vehicles.  And the last time I saw Kerry coming through town, .gov still had plenty of dark blue Chevy Suburbans in the motorcades - I've never seen the SS in vans.

That was more likely WHCA - not SS.

I sat in Bush Sr's limo. And let me tell you the thing is a fortress that can withstand a hit from a rocket. The doors on that thing are heavy as hell. I have also seen the insides of the secret service vehicles and was fortunate enough to get a look in one of the trunks. Some nice stuff in there. The car doors have weapons holsters inside on the door panel. (this was over 10 years ago so I am sure it probrobly changed)

Those are the guys that throw out lollypops and candbars to the cheering children.  Run up to them while waving your arms and yelling and maybe they will give you a present.

These are pics taken by a military person (don't have more detail than that) who traveled with the POTUS's motorcade sometime in 2004.  I found these on a thread on a different board.  I can't remember which one or when, or I'd give credit.

Don't know how long I can keep these up due to bandwidth limitations...

GW does get similar treatment...

A whle ago, some moron forgot to read the NOTAMs before he took off in his Cessna...

Flew too close to AF-1, had no idea it was in the area...

He got a visit from 2 F-16s, and was escorted back to the local ANG base.....

I immagine the FAA pulled his ticket for that...

Hello folks . . . .

President Bush was in Dover, Ohio on July 31, 2004.  Here is a "post" that I made on another gun board:

Hello one and all,

President Bush made a "whistle stop" here in Dover, Ohio (Tuscarawas County) today, at around 1:00 p.m.

Must have rained most of the morning, but Wifey and I had made plans to "go and see". After standing under a business awning for about 60 minutes we started to see SS agents in the area.

At appox 12:45 pm or so the agents "roped off" an area and made the crowd move to either side of the roped-off area. At that time uniformed SS agents had the crowd line up and let approx 100 or so spectators into the roped-off area. All spectators were searched and inspected for weapons or ? ? ?. As I came to the "head of the line" I had to surrender by S&W stainless folding knife. Agent said I could turn around and go back into the crowd or surrender the knife and go foward -- I surrendered the knife, asking the agent "please be sure my knife finds a good home ! ! ". (really happy I left my G-26 locked up in my truck ! ! )

So . . . . Wifey and I made it to the "front lines" just before the rather large motorcade pulled to a stop. Several SS agents in "suits" and several more in black colored BDU's. Security was TIGHT ! ! ! Two large "Bush-Cheney" buses (Mr. Bush was on the second bus) and five more buses for SS and the press (too much press ! !). Several black colored large SUV's, vans, and a large "box van" completed the motorcade. Inside the vehicles you could see a couple of agents holding from what it appeared to be M-4 carbines (you could see the butt stocks) and one agent was on foot with a larged zippered rifle case. Three, maybe more, of the vehicles were "armored".

Mr. Bush exited the bus and began "pressing the flesh". I called out "Mr President ! " and he reached over the people standing in front of me and I was able to shake his hand -- what an honor ! !

After about 15 minutes or so he re-entered the "Bush-Cheney" bus and was on his way to Cambridge, Ohio.

There were approx 60 "Kerry supporters/protestors" there (everyone is entitled to their own opinion) but I was truly appauled at the vulgarity and profanity on some of their posters ! ! Must be members of Hollywood ! !

The local news is reporting that during his speech in Cambridge, Ohio a short time ago Mr. Bush talked about "gun rights for the American citizens". As soon I as review his speech I'll post the comments.

I have never doubted that I would -- again-- vote for Mr. Bush, but it was truly an exciting time to see the President.

And was it worth "surrendering" my $40 knife -- yes ! !

And, an update . . . .

some more good news:  Called the local PD on Monday to see if there may be a small chance my knife was turned over to them.

It was  ! !   Got my knife back  ! ! !  When taking to the officer at the PD it apears that the SS "collected" over 20 knives -- glad I was not the only one  ! ! !

Cheney was in town here to tour the Chickamauga battlefield a while back, and they most assuredly close the entire route beforehand - part of I-75 and Hwy 27 were all closed.  The good thing is that it was announced several hours beforehand so you could avoid the closed area.  One dipshit called the local talk radio station and made a possible threat, it was pretty interesting to hear how fast "men in suits" turned up afterward.
