The post on the shitbag getting tagged by the predator had me wondering about CIA aircraft.

Are they maintained by USAF personnel or CIA contract(EX USAF most likely) personnel?

This applies only to the birds they fly that are identical to or damn close to active duty AF birds.

I read a book a while back by one of the CIA guys who was first into Afghanistan after 9/11.
They indeed had Predator drones (armed i might add) flown by the CIA.

I think the book is called "1st In" i cannot remember though

Oh, I know they have them, but who does the maintenance on them?  That is what I am curious about.

Both Mil and Civ (usually ex-military) operate and maintain these.  It's a fast growing field and it will only get bigger.  There is very good money to be made in this field, especially if someone is willing to deploy to less than desirable places.

We have both USAF and civ types here.

Maintenance is the same as an other predator. Whoever is assigned to the squadron does the maintenance.

If anybody is looking for a great book to read First In is one to pick up.

As for the Predators... I'd bet there's a few contractors around working on them.  I have no basis of information, just a guess.

All of the MQ-9 AMXS are contractors. We haven't stood up an AF unit yet, but will soon.

There are a few MQ-1 units run by contractors, with some being "The Agency We Don't Speak Of".
