Just got off the phone, was basically told my beloved Mother will be heading to an assisted living facility. I'm starting to break down. The part that hurts is she thought she was heading home on Monday. She has Cancer in one of her lungs, from second hand smoke. She didn't want to treat it because of her age, 83 but was still driving and coherent. It has not been easy. Wife decided not to be involved and basically turned my inlaws away from me. I'm an only child. My father passed in 2001. She means the world to me, it kills me to see her go through this.

85 year old mom living here with the wife and I. I could not bring myself to send her to a home.

As an only child, thinking about my own mother dying is a sad thing indeed. I haven't gone down that route yet thankfully, and I am sorry to hear about what's going on in your life
