She Who Must Be Obeyed was hit with the news that her mother passed on very early this morning, approximately 0200 Philippines time. She had just talked to her last night at about 2100, and was going to fly down to see her this week. Instead, she's headed down to Cebu this morning to make the arrangements. With all that has happened with her father being terminally ill, as well as the typhoon, some of her family being burnt out by the hostage takers in Zamboanga a few weeks ago, etc., etc., etc., she's about at the end of her rope. I'm 5K miles away, and can't do jack except make sure we can pay for what we have to. I can't even get time off for the funeral.
So, if you guys would keep SWMBO and her family in your thoughts and prayers, I'd appreciate it. Positive vibes from those who don't believe would also be appreciated. Thanks. |

Kpel, will do. Make sure she knows that she may be able to get a special 'Bereavement' air fare from the airlines. If you are in the military she may also be able to get Red Cross help with bills related to her expenses.
Best of luck to her, and accept my condolences. |

We had already bought tickets for later in the week. They changed the flight upon her arrival at the airport in Manila, no problem. Return flight will be as previously scheduled. I'm not in the military, but I do security for the US Army in Saudi Arabia. I can't get home, but am on the phone with SWMBO as much as possible outside of duty hours. She's a really strong woman, but there is a limit to what anyone can take. She's been a trooper, and I'm proud of her, but when she called bawling her eyes out last night, it broke my heart because I'm so far away and can't get there. |

That's a tough spot Kpel. She has been through a lot this year. My condolences and prayers sent. Thanks much. It ain't over yet, unfortunately. Her father only has a few more months, if that. He stopped his chemo and other treatment other than pain medication awhile back, but at least she got to see him one last time in the Philippines before he went back Stateside for the end. This thing with her mom has only been a month or so coming, and she went fast because she refused treatment and refused to eat. |
