I was wondering what the situation was like in Renno right now. The US geological survey is warning resident that a "Larger Event" could potentially occur. If you havnt kept up on current events Nv has been experiencing alot of small earthquakes since Febuary 28. The magnatude and frequency of these quakes has been increasing dramaticly over the past few days. It appears there is a greater potential for a SHTF situation. They are telling residents to learn how to shut off the water and gas to there homes and have supplies ready. Is the state and federal government posturing for an event? With the cluster fuck that was Hurricain Katrina in La do you think they have learned anything? Is it worth the financial risk to pre-position emergency goods and supplies and put the National Guard on Elert so they could respond to an emergency? There are no gaurantees that "somthing" is going to happen. At what level of potential or threat level would pre-positioning of Supplies and Emergency services be justified? Will local, state and federal government mantain a post event reactionary stance or will someone actually do somthing? What are you doing to prepare your investment, property and family? |

Have been disaster planning with my family for decades. Nothing new. All my kids and wife know how to turn off the gas and water. We have a good stockpile and can live outside our home in summer or winter quite comfortably for a couple of months following an earthquake. Regarding Katrina: the screw up was not Federal, but State of Louisiana and City of New Orleans. Had Blanco and Nagin called for Federal help (which is required before the Feds can intervene), than none of this would have happened. Instead, these Democrat leaders held back until it was too late to make a reasonable response. The couldn't have planned it better because all the blame for an incompetent response was laid at the feet of President Bush. I'm not saying this happened on purpose, but the same thing happened to the senior President Bush with hurricane Andrew. The facts bear out that there was more federal assistance pumping into NOLA faster than in any previous hurricane disaster response. Had Blanco and Nagin done their job (cue video of the New Orleans bus lot with hundreds of flooded busses), the disaster would have still been bad, but the impacts would have been less. Couple this with the entitlement lazy slob mentality of certain portions of New Orleans and the media's thirst for publishing the dramatic, and you end up with a huge natural disaster that has all the false hallmarks of a Bush failure. |

Not to hijack or anything, but if I remember correctly, FEMA comes right out and tells everyone that they will not be able to act for at least 72 hours after such an event, so until then people need to take care of themselves. (Either persoanlly, or have the city, county or state take some actions) Personally, I think you need to take care of yourself, and if you get assistance from the gov, great, but don't count on it. EVERYONE should have some basic preps made, if not, sucks to be you. |
