Anybody have any experience with these?  I'm talking about the ones that are in a little carrying pack and have 2 small bottles, 10 and 20cf or something like that.  I know their use would be very limited and you won't be cutting 1/2" plate all day with them.  Basically, are they worth having at all, or do you go through the bottles so quickly that its not even worth the hassle?  I'm in school now for welding, we did cutting last semester and just did acetylene welding so although I have no "jobs" for a set like that right now, it may come in handy in the future.

I usually see HVAC guys use them more than welders and fitters.  They use them for soldering lines and fixing leaks.

I had a set like that, it was handy to have around.  I did outgrow it pretty quickly though and moved up to a larger torch and bottles.  If that's all you can afford and don't mind that you'll be running out of fuel pretty quickly then they are real torches and can do real work unlike the luck I've had with some of the benzomatic type torches.

If you dont do a whole lot with them or are cramped for space theyre great.

i have a set for general around the house/shop use - mainly cutting scrap steel. you can also run a micro torch off of them - if you do any small scale work. they're easy to lug to a friends place or out into a field. mainly, my needs don't justify larger tanks or the space needed for them. and my gas supplier is also close enough so that fills are not inconvenient.
