Be sure to get a 3 piece Italian slate. 3 piece models can acually be flatter than the 1 piece slate since the heavy one piece slate can bow over time.
(plus they are easily moved) |

Billiards & Barstools has a great selection, but you will find high prices. I know a chick that plays amateur pool, and she knows the owner and he givers her/friends cost + 10%.
They have a few metro locations. Go look and let me know the model number, etc, and I will see if she can get a better deal through him. |

If you don't just HAVE to have a new table, the classifieds and a little patience will usually yield you one at half-price or lower. If my Dad hadn't bought me a new Brunswick Tahoe when I bought my new house two years ago (HECKUVA housewarming gift!!!), I would have gone that route. FWIW, new or used, have a professional who knows what he's doing move it and set it up for you - it's not cheap but is usually worth the money on a quality table. |

My uncle has a Connelly and they're very nice. BUt semi-costly.

Check out Sam's. They had one on display in the Corpus Christi store last week when I was there. Didn't pay too much attention to it (don't have the money or space for a table) but I did notice that it had the three piece slate.

After having looked at Brunswick, Olhausen, and Connelly, I have decided to go with [b]Connelly[/b] when the budget allows.
Better quality. Much lower price. [b]As always, go to the various dealers and compare![/b] Don't take what I have to say about pool tables as gospel! Also, check EBay. They have a BUNCH of auctions on NEW tables that appear to be Connelly. Even with shipping the price beats what a dealer will sell for. Get it delivered, then call a dealer and pay $100-$200 for setup. |

Another good brand is Gandy.
I had a 9ft Brunswick Gold Crown (top of the line) in my old house. I bought it through local classifieds for the measely sum of $700. After the back breaking job of moving it (1200 lbs, disassembled) I replaced all the bumpers and the felt and set it up using a transit and a machinist's ruler. I had all of $1000 in it when it was done. The house's new owner still has it and still uses it often. The interesting thing about my table is that it came from the NCO club at Aberdeen Proving Ground. It was a 1959 vintage table and looked great once I stripped all the caked on OD green paint off the base and hit it with some Minwax. I would have kept it, but the thought of moving it, combined with the buyer's offer of $2500 was too much to resist! |

Most tables are expensive because of the fancy carvings, etc. Most of the times the rails are not even carved, but the base and legs are. Look for the type of finish you want, and what will last (ie: veneer, wood veneer, laminate, 100% wood). All tables vary in price simply because of the types of wood and the artistic detail.
You can get a cheap table at Sears that looks good. Mine is a simple Oak with routered lines, similar looking to the Olhausen Gibraltar (one of the lower-cost Olhausen tables). (The pool-table installed wanded to pay me $2700 for a 10yr old used table. Makes me wonder what it is worth - it was won on a game show and is a rare model.) The "Oak Gibraltar" should be around $2k installed, last I checked. (it is veneered) The Gibraltar is a garden oak laminate finish. |
