Police shot Virginia man 23 times, autopsy showsMARTINSBURG, W.Va. – An autopsy report says Martinsburg police officers shot a Virginia man 23 times during an altercation in 2013. The report says Wayne Arnold Jones died from multiple gunshot wounds. The 50-year-old Stephens City, Va., man's brothers are suing the city over the shooting on behalf of his estate. The wrongful death lawsuit seeks $200 million in damages. Media outlets report that the family's lawyer, Sherman L. Lambert Sr., filed a copy of the autopsy report in federal court in Martinsburg on Tuesday. Lambert also filed an amended lawsuit that adds the officers as defendants. Police have said Jones drew a knife and stabbed one officer during a scuffle.  |

Okay, they used the plural "officers" meaning more than one cop shot him. Assume two two-officer patrol cars, minus officer who was stabbed
equals three officers shooting. Average of 8 rounds apiece, firing as fast as accurately possible, until it was identified that the threat had stopped. Throw in stabbing a police officer, and I'm betting shooting time overall was less than 2.5 seconds. They didn't execute anyone, they executed proper training.

One cop, all those rounds might be overkill. 3+ cops not really overkill. Each officer likely sees an individual threat and fires to stop the threat resulting in lots of rounds being expended.

23 hits isn't at all over the top if you consider multiple officers firing at the same time. Can't really blame them being liberal with the bullets either. they tried stun gunning him and it failed.

Only 23 times, shit he doing it wrong, considering a black guy could get shot considerably more times just reaching for his wallet, this guy stabbed a cop, he should have been nuked from orbit! It clearly had to have been something wrong with that guy, most black people KNOW better than to even pull a photo id on a cop let alone a knife!

According to police, the officers involved struck Jones twice with stun guns after he became angry and refused to follow orders. The shocks had “little” effect on Jones, who pulled a knife and stabbed one of the officers when they tried to restrain him on the ground, police said. The stab wound was minor and did not require medical attention, police said. The lawsuit indicates the officer was stabbed in the torso with a pocket knife.
Jones was ordered to drop the knife while he still was on the ground. When he did not comply and tried to get up, the officers backed away and fired multiple rounds at him “to neutralize the threat,” according to the police report. ETA- News Link |

Either it was a good shoot or it wasn't. FWIW, from what is in the news story, it certainly sounds like deadly force was warranted. Stupid media.

My oldest sister's first husband was a deputy who was involved in a shooting back around 1970. Sheriff and three deputies went out on a man with a gun call to a mentally challenged "regular customer". Like normal the sheriff went to talk to the guy to get him to hand over the shotgun, but that time the guy shot and killed the sheriff. The deputies turn the shooter into Swiss cheese. Brother in-law did not remember doing it, but he used both of the speed loaders he carried and only stopped shooting because he was out of ammo. It was the same for both the other deputies. Executing proper training in a moment of extreme tension/near panic over seeing their boss get shot. I'm sure it was the same for the officer who saw their comrade getting stabbed. |
