KENDALL, Fla. -- Police say they received several 911 calls about a man running around naked beating up another man Friday evening.
Officers said when they arrived at the Waterford Point apartment complex at 89 Street SW 122 Ave., Kelvin Andrade, 29, who was completely unclothed, attacked a female officer, hitting her in the face.
Backup officers arrived and during a confrontation with Andrade, officers used a Taser gun to try to stop him. When it didn't work, shots were fired and Andrade was wounded.
He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital and remains in critical condition.
Police said Yamig Alfaro told them he was riding his bike when Andrade attacked him for no reason. Alfaro was transported to a hospital along with the injured officer.
Investigators said two women who live in the complex said that Andrade had approached them making sexual suggestions and masturbating. Andrade's clothes were found in the parking lot.
Detectives say don't know why Andrade attacked the officers, why he beat Alfaro or why he was nude in public.
Andrade's brother, Gerard Andrade, said that the behavior was totally out of character for his brother. He said is brother is "a good person, well-educated, with a daughter." He said he is an "outstanding citizen."
Family members said that Andrade did not abuse drugs or alcohol and did not have any history of mental illness.
The family has hired a lawyer because they don't believe that police should have shot Andrade. They said that they believe that there was some other way officers could have controlled the situation.
I'm sure his blood will test positive for Meth or PCP.
