Police take advantage of car seizure law in drug sting Thursday April 22, 2004 LOS ANGELES (AP) Police arrested 16 people and seized 10 cars in a sting that took advantage of a new law allowing officers to confiscate the vehicles of people caught trying to buy drugs, authorities said. The four-hour operation involved five undercover officers who posed as street dealers using macadamia nuts cut to look like authentic rock cocaine. ``The message today is: If you drive down here looking for dope, you'll lose your freedom and lose your vehicle,'' Capt. Joe Curreri said Wednesday. Last October, Mayor James Hahn signed into law measures that allow police to seize the cars of people who buy or sell drugs. The city already has laws allowing police to seize the cars of street racers and customers of prostitutes. This is the first time car seizures were used in narcotics operations in the city. Similar busts have been used in prostitution stings in Hollywood since the city adopted the law in 2002, modeled after a similar measure in Oakland. ``If these tools can help push the demand down, then we certainly hope the supply will go down and the law-abiding residents ... will be empowered and get their communities back,'' said Eric Moses, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. Police had the suspects' vehicles towed to an impound yard, and will sell them at auction unless the owners come forward within 10 days to appeal the seizure. |

Pretty soon its gonna read Police take advantage of car seizure law in Jaywalking sting Thursday April 22, 2012 LOS ANGELES (AP) Police arrested 16 people and seized 10 cars in a sting that took advantage of a new law allowing officers to confiscate the vehicles of people caught trying to jaywalk, authorities said. The four-hour operation involved five undercover officers who posed as crossing guards using handheld stop signs and reflective belts cut to look like authentic crossing guard uniforms. ``The message today is: If you drive down here looking to cross, you'll lose your freedom and lose your vehicle,'' Capt. Joe Curreri said Wednesday. Last October, Mayor James Hahn signed into law measures that allow police to seize the cars of people who Jaywalk or cross after the "dont cross" signal begins to flash. The city already has laws allowing police to seize the cars of street racers customers of prostitutes, drug users, internet file sharers, gun owners and non-party members. This is the first time car seizures were used in Jaywalking operations in the city. Similar busts have been used in prostitution stings in Hollywood since the city adopted the law in 2010, modeled after a similar measure in Oakland. ``If these tools can help push the demand down, then we certainly hope the supply will go down and the law-abiding residents ... will be empowered and get their communities back,'' said Eric Moses, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. Nope. Thanks to the "war on some drugs", even a misdemeanor possession can result in seizure. My question is how can a car, house, boat, or cash commit a crime? It can't. So the police have no buisness touching those items in a drug sting, or any other kind of "operation". God damned bullshit. |

Like a fucking crack head cares if you take his car he probably hasn't made a payment on in six months??? Cops doing stings that sell drugs to small time drug users is a big fucking waste of time. Think about it, don't you think they would be better off going after the dealers?? No, instead they pose as drug dealers and take advantage of someone's habit so they can steal their cars from them. Bullshit all the way. |
Where was that picture taken? That is absolutely AWESOME!!!!!! |
| All these confiscation laws do is encourage running from the cops. I'll tell you right now if I live in a state that passes that and I for instance get caught racing you can damn well bet I'm not pulling over like I would if it was a ticket/fine/raised insurance... |

( After being caught street racing. . . ) Your Honor, I was being chased by a Black & White intend on the piracy of my personal property. An LAPD car may have the City Seal on the door - but what I saw in my rear view mirror was a Jolly Rodger with disco lights. |
OMG!! heres a tip. WALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know where the bad neighiborhoods are. Just drive nearby then get out and walk. They might bust you but you just say to them 'bite me'. or once you get the drugs go back to your car carefully and put the drugs between your teeth. Keeping them dry but ready to swallow. Once the secret police jump on you.........GULP! no fuss no muss. No evidence, no bust, layta PIG!

And then you OD and die. |

More victims of the wonderful war on drugs.. Great idea, let's confiscate the cars of low income folks trying to buy a $5 crack rock. End result: they lose their job because they can't get to work, then have to go on the gov dole and be supported by us taxpayers. |
