Family alerted me to a problem with the toilet.

Today the toilet in our master (on a slab, with a septic tank) began gurgling up large bubbles.  Kind of like a kid with a straw in milk.  It seems like the toilet is not flushing correctly.

What say ye?

-Clogged vent pipe?

-Full system?  We haven't had a ton of rain lately and I had the system pumped about a year or two (max) ago.

Kind of worried to take a shower for fear the system is full and will back up in the house.

Did you take a look-see insde? 3ft round cover.

might be time for pumping. if theres only water in there, you might have a problem.

So call a plumber?

I tried snaking the toilet several times, nothing came up.

When I last had it pumped there was a wall that was crumbling and we ended up adding a long filter to the septic tank.   I wonder if that filter might be clogged up.

Your must be set up different than mine. My tank has a large cover that they pump from. Also  2 other areas to check. When I check mine I look at the level of the solids and then pump when full.

I'd call a plumer before it backs up.

I've been noticing for a while that the bathroom sink (mine) gurgles a little but has for some time.  Never thought much about it.

The kitchen sink isn't backing up nor are any other toilets bubbling.

I asked the plumber if it was okay to take a shower and he told me to take the PVC cap off my relief valve outside.  As soon as I did, toilet paper came out and water started flowing out.  It's great to be me.  I'm hoping it's just the filter that's clogged.

Generally a gurgling commode indicated a clog, which with septic is usually at the inlet pipe and baffle

That's where the filter is installed, so I think you are right.  I hope it's nothing more than a clogged filter.

Mine filled up once.  It was more like it wouldn't flush all the way.  Had it pumped out and took about 20 flushes before it returned to normal.  I did not hear any gurgling at the time.

Anyway you can check the filter yourself, to save you a couple of bucks?

I just have to remove a plastic 3 ft round cover and my filter is in arms reach

Well I know exactly where the filter is but I have a family that needs to get ready for work and school tomorrow AM followed by meetings.  So I don't have time and I want to make sure it's not something bigger.

Above all else remember the two rules of plumbing: 1) Shit flows downhill 2) Don't pit your fingers in your mouth.

Everything else is just for show...

The baffle in mine had crumbled enough that it was allowing the solids out into the drain field.  The filter just prevents solids from getting out into the drain field--how, I don't really know.

I'll watch them clean the filter tomorrow and then just do it myself once a year.

I hope it's a cheap fix for you!
