Is this a specific track in med school or do they become abortion doctors after they are in the industry for awhile?  I would assume most are some sort of OB/gyn or something?

Well first you have to hate babies, like really hate babies. Then you go to school where you are indoctrinated by the liberal elite. After brainwashing you go for an apprenticeship at Kirby or Dyson (the big hitters in the industry) and once you get your Atheist certification you can open a clinic.

I googled George Tiller and LeRoy Carhart, mainly because those two have been prominent in the news.

One common link in particular is going to cause a ruckus here.  I was frankly surprised to see it.

I'm just wondering why anti abortion people arent attacking it from this angle.  I have looked through several med school web sites and I cannot find any med school that teaches this stuff.  I don't know about you guys, but it sounds dangerous to me to have someone perform this procedure without any formalized training.  I dont even know if there is a formal process or SOP.  Seems like a health risk to the mother.

I am guessing that if you REALLY want to murder as many cute innocent and defenseless babies as possible, but you have good grades and prefer not to go to jail - then medical school is a pretty damn good way to indulge your murderous and callous desires.

... that's sarcasm by the way.  I'm only mentioning that because some people will probably post similar stuff, but actually be serious.

Dilation & Curettage, elective termination of pregnancy, abortion, whatever you want to call it, is a surgical procedure learned during an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency, and to a lesser extent, as a subcomponent of a general surgery residency.

There is much controversy about this, and I do believe that many programs do not force actual terminations on unwilling residents, however, as a procedure, a D&C or stillborn delivery are identical to a elective abortion. So they all learn them, even though many may never do them in the real world upon completion of residency.

Not even that.

Before abortion became lawful Back Alley Abortionists were anybody, and I do mean ANYBODY willing to perform the abortion.  Licensed MD's rarely performed the procedure.  Deaths or permanent sterility from illegal abortions were commonplace.  The horror stories I read about Back Alley Butchers made me respect the wishes of women that don't want to be pregnant.

The Pill was gaining popularity, fame and notoriety.  But not every woman was able to get her hands on The Pill.

In the news recently there was a story of a rapist that caused a woman's pregnancy.  I remember one editorial cartoon that had a man raving with flames coming out of his mouth decrying abortion.  Just like most male Arfcomers.  Behind him was his daughter, nominally 14 or so years old.  The implication was that she had been raped and is now pregnant.  Yeah, now what, Grandpa?  Instead of being able to wait 10 more years for a Very happy occasion you are having a very traumatic session Right Now.  What's the right thing?

Women have been having those conversations since humanity lived in caves.

You can write whatever laws you want and appeal to whatever moral authority you believe you hold.  If a woman really, really doesn't want to be pregnant, she'll find a way to stop it.  And plenty often, she'll be more than willing to share that knowledge with other women.

There's the serious answer you wanted, OP.

ETA:  For those who may not know, a residency is what you do in the field of your choice (or whatever your grades will let you do ) AFTER med school.  So 4 years of college, another 4 years of med school....and after that you start a residency program.  So they learn the procedure after they're already a MD that has made the decision to specialize in OB/GYN.

you go to med school and become and Ob/Gyn.

Thats it.

Scientifically, terminating a pregnancy is just a medical procedure, same as an appendectomy, etc.  Morals and ethics and whether it is right or wrong, or when it is or is not appropriate to perform are other discussions. But the actual medical procedure is just that.  A procedure.

The procedures used in abortion also have perfectly legitimate medical uses, such as when a fetus dies prior to birth.

D&C, D&E, IDX, etc.

Yeah, he hit the nail on the head for obvious reasons.  I was going to say medical school, and aside from elective procedures, if a baby dies in utero and isn't spontaneously aborted, someone needs to know how to go in there and clean up.
