Quoted: How many, drink beer and shoot AR's? I have friends,.. .. that is what they like to do. Fill a large ruck sack full of brew, grab the AR,AK or FAL , ammo , MRE and hike out into the woods and blast away all day. Then after a good days shoot long hike out of beer and almost out of ammo, stumble home to the wife/ girlfriend / dog... drop off the wet, dirty ,muddy rifle in the corner to rust and crash... Up early for work the next day. Is that so Bad?

Please explain why this thread hasn't been locked? I don't understand why the board would allow a discussion that reflects poorly on the firearm community.

We can't discuss illegal alterations to firearms (or mention breasts or butts [:O]), but we can openly discuss behavior that will promote a detrimental reputation and encourage further restrictions.

Thank you.

To be honest, sometimes this is a good opportunity for our members to really show how level headed they are (almost everyone is telling this guy that guns & alcohol do not mix).

And it's locked now [:D]

Um, because it doesn't violate the Conduct Code.  It would be a stretch to call it pure trolling.  If you read carefully, you will see the poster is not advocating anything--only saying he knows people who do this, and is asking our opinion of it.

Shooting during the day-Legal
Drinking with friends at night- Legal
Getting up and going to work next morning- Good work ethic and sense of responsibility

Strongly advising others not to mix guns and alcohol- Pretty good think.

And the problem was what again........????????

I don't see the big deal with this being posted. To pretend that people don't sometimes have a couple of beers while plinking at cans is sticking out heads in the ground. This is not that uncommon, as stupid as I think it is.

I don't think posts are necessarily restricted here just because they might be detrimental to shooter's reputations, I think most of us are more concerned with being able to speak freely than worry how someone might view each post.

How's about "none of your bee wax"?
 How's about "this is America"?

As TBK1 said:"If you read carefully, you will see the poster is not advocating anything--only saying he knows people who do this, and is asking our opinion of it."

 Lighten up, will you?

MA'AM:
I believe this is one of those threads that should be left open for educational reasons.
If you will note, none of the individuals that visit this site or responded to his question  supported this practice.
Quite the contrary, all of us went out of our way to explain that this behavior is not only dangerous, it is also irresponsible and not tolerated.
As members of this forum it behooves us to respond to questions and comments as responsible adults, We are the examples and not the exceptions.

The simple concern was that he asking if combining the 'drinking' and 'shooting' was 'so bad'.

Apparently I am way off base and once again apologize for offending any of the delicate sensibilities that exist on this board.

jesus christ, is that what this board has become...

some n00bs come rocking in here and saying "lock this" "lock that" blah blah blah

there have been probably 1000 threads just like this since i have been involved with this board since early 99...

its a crying shame that people cannot have a good discussion about drinking and firearms...

like it or not some people DO drink and shoot!
im not one of them, but having A beer is not grounds for not being able to shoot.

i would be lying if i said that i never drink and drive.  one or two beers is plenty enough for me, but its still drinking anything.

get over yourself TitaniumT, i dont really give a rip what you think should or shouldnt be locked because YOU think it should be that way...

[rolleyes]

ive seen more locked threads on this board in the last few days than i ever want to see...

it is growing extrememly tiresome.

drinking and shooting is not necissarily bad.  any worse than shooting and being angry, or being distracted or hopped up on meds... all are bad choices to some extent...

it was a valid question.
no doubt.

What? On THIS board? [shock] You have GOT to be kidding...TT, grab your boyfriend and come to one of the NY Crew shoots...You will rapidly be disabused of the notion that we have ANY [s]sense[/s] sensibilities at all! [:D]

It occurs the delicate sensibilities being offended belong specifically to the one complaining in the first instance.

You're absolutely correct Arock, I was sensitive to the post I asked about. Apparently I am off base and apologize for asking a question as to board rules/conduct. .

The intent behind the question was born out of a concern to ensure we promote firearms and their use in a responsible manner, particularly in this political climate.

Please,I am asking all involved to not escalate this into a pissing match, now that it seems headed in the right direction. [:)]

I have to go,so I hope that a mod and a Staff member from the GD will keep things civil.

Thanks

TT, most of us agree booze and guns don't mix.  I suspect we also agree that doctors should not practice while impared.  Both are bad ideas.  Both happen.  Speaking of such things is not bad - ignoring them would be.  Some people may not realize the obvious but see the light after a thread here on the subject.  If they learn something and a positive change is the result then the board has done a good thing, wouldn't you agree?

Some members here could also learn a little respect for a lady.......

You're not off base; no need to apologize.  You can complain for the same reasons 1L19 can ask a stupid question.

The intent behind the question was born out of a concern to ensure we promote firearms and their use in a responsible manner, particularly in this political climate.

If that's really the case, then meet those concerns by further pointing out the obvious stupidity, not by suggesting we silence the member.
