Starts on Monday or Tuesday. If you're a Planetside 1 veteran, make sure you've got your SOE account good to go and opt into the beta. Veterans will get free entry into the beta. You can also keep an eye on their twitter (@planetside2) for keys - they post a key every once in a while that's up for grabs for the first person to add it to their account on the Planetside 2 website, along with just giving keys out to random people that ask, winners of trivia questions, people that draw fanart, etc.
I've got my beta key (I threw together some fanart and traded it for a key on twitter). Anyone else going to be in? |

If you want beta keys, go onto twitter and go to https://twitter.com/planetside2.
Pledge allegiance to Vanu by telling Maelstrom you want to fight beside him, likely to get a key DM'ed to you. |

If you've still got access to your SOE account that you had Planetside on, I think you just have to opt into the beta on the Planetside 2 website using that account. If you even have to do that - you might just get access anyways. If you need to recover the account, you should be able to do so through SOE's online support. Hardware requirements are unknown at the moment. Given how awesome their new 'forgelight' graphics engine looks, I wouldn't be surprised if the requirements were fairly high - especially given the whole massive battles nature. Beta builds usually aren't fully optimized, either, so the requirements for the beta might be higher than the final build. ETA: Along with the @planetside2 twitter account it looks like @mhigby is also giving out beta keys - in fairly big lots. If you follow him, he makes a post every now and then saying that the first 100 people to retweet that post will get sent a key. |

Good news: Unless something changes, the Planetside 2 beta starts today.
Bad news: They clarified that the entry order will be active PS1 players, PS1 vets, priority keys, and then opt-ins. John Smedley, SOE's CEO, said on Reddit that it may take 2-3 weeks to get all the priority key holders in. |

Oh, the VS are getting screwed AGAIN.  Planetside died the day they nerfed the magmower. VS Max's have no jumpjets anymore. As I understand, Jumpjets, Shields, and Lockdown will be part of the customization system. So, VS MAX suits could have jumpjets. So could TR and NC. But from what I've heard, that stuff isn't implemented for MAX suits yet (beta being beta and all). |

Im a TR vet of PS 1 (CAPTMurdock of The New Diabolic) how is PS 2 going to work? Am I going to have to play a monthly fee to play or do they have some other system worked out? Im going to have to get my computer upgraded if I want to play, its way behind in upgrades.
I really miss my Prowler tank.

So you can just download it and play forever without paying a dime. If you want, however, there are things you can buy, such as different camo skins and designs for your armor and vehicles, XP and resource boosts so that you level up in BR faster or earn resources faster (they've added a resource system in addition to the timers for spawning vehicles/MAX/etc). From what I have seen, they have been very careful to keep the game from being "pay to win." That is, they are avoiding anything like weapons that you could only buy with real money that are more powerful than what you can get for free. They're just sticking to cosmetic or other upgrades that don't give you power over a non-paying player. It's largely modeled on some other very successful F2P games like League of Legends. |

Even with fanart in hand, I had to tweet like twenty times over the course of a couple days to get it noticed. Those guys are getting inundated with tweets. Just don't spam twenty tweets in a minute. Two of my friends got into the beta on Monday. It looks like they've done two waves so far. First (at beta launch) was for active PS1 players, yesterday's was for PS1 vets that had opted in to the beta. Cross your fingers if you're like me and have a priority key - we could be getting in next week. ETA: As an arfcommer, you should be skilled in the ways of the MSPaint diagram. Use your MSPaint skills to make fanart. I've seen plenty of keys handed out for that. If you have a dog, take a picture of your dog looking pitiful and a plea for a key written on a piece of paper taped to its collar. |

AFAIK, the only people left to invite to the beta are the opt-ins. I believe the original plan was that they weren't even going to start bringing the twitter keys in for another two weeks, and who knows when the opt-ins would get in. As things are going, if you've opted in you might get to enjoy messing around with the beta some before Borderlands 2 is out and everyone rushes off to play that. |

BTW, the game is freaking awesome. |
I have never raged more in a game then in PS2 beta  I have no idea what it is, but this game just seems to get my blood to boil. Overall they did a nice job but it needs some major balancing. There is no reason why a NC should be able to kill me as a TR if I get the drop on him. Planes are still ridiculously hard to fly and there is no joystick support. The stupid timer system means I can not get enough time in on vehicles to become proficient at flying them. The stupid ATV is useless, it spins out of control with any decent turn defeating its purpose as a fast scout and it can not climb even the tiniest of inclines without losing traction. Worst of all is that the cert system sucks (it used to be awesome in PS1), you are stuck in a class system, and it takes forever to be able to afford anything in their market because it is a huge time sink used to get you to buy station cash. I will keep playing because I have had some epic base sieges, but the game needs a lot of work and a hell of alot more content. |

Not a free play to show off the game. Its only been 2 to 3 weeks since tech test/closed beta. Hell they just dropped the NDA a week ago. Expect to see tons of balancing fixes and new continents arriving over the next few months. Hopefully will be seeing Esamir and Amerish show up here soon to test. I can't seem to get good framerates on the West 1 server. I am with SG and that is where they are playing right now. I am golden on the East servers though, even playing over a 3G connection the game is much better for me than the West servers. This game is gonna be a good one. Graphics are amazing and with hardly any content in the game yet.

Felt like a boss when I got my key. Got it last night during their ops stream. I never seen people copy and paste so fast. A key would get released in the chat and it was redeemed like a second later. I finally got mine when a dev released 3 at once and I picked the middle one and got it even after i corrected a screw up in my copy and paste
