[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Pigeon problem (Page 1 of 2)

So I went outside today and noticed of big mountain of shit all over the side of my house and there's a pigeon standing right there. So I got out a broom and sweep it away and it just kept flying to a different part of my roof and would not leave my house. What do I do?  I debated shooting it with a BB gun but I may or may not have some liberal neighbors that might see. Does this mean it has eggs somewhere or maybe a hidden big problem I don't know about?

A small amount of treated grain will eliminate your pigeon issue.

Glue pad trap with a little grain on it. Your problem fly's away and becomes someone else's problem.

That's why you employ the three S's.

Shoot
Shovel
Shut the hell up

I do not advocate the breaking of any laws or of actually following the three S's.  I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I had a starling problem last year.  I too am surrounded by liberal neighbors, and live in a neighborhood where the discharge of even a BB gun is a problem.

I killed 13 starlings by quickly and surreptitiously sniping them off the roof with a .177 pellet rifle.  I would quickly walk out, shoot, and go back inside.  I'd go out and pick up the birds off the ground later.

I believe that you might be able to employ a similar strategy.

Take matter into hand, you can't just have some pigeons shitting everywhere.

That's bullshit.

It is not only legal, there are no seasons or bag limits.

Common pigeons are invasive pests and legal to shoot many places. Eurasian doves too.

Fire away.

I've heard they taste sort of like doves. Since doves are pretty tasty, this seems like an excellent solution.

False. It's open season, no limit year round in Georgia.

Direct from the DNR regulations:

Coyotes, Armadillos, Groundhogs, Beavers, Starlings, Pigeons & English Sparrows
No closed season. No limit. Electronic calls may be used for hunting coyotes. There is no closed season for trapping beavers and coyotes. See 2015-16 Season, Dates & Limits for seasons.

Funny thing about mixing Mouse bait in with some cracked corn, to get rid of a mouse problem.
The Pigeons unfortunately, get into it as well.

Good luck with that mouse problem.

This.

We had a similar problem once down in El Paso (residential neighborhood).  What many call 'pigeons' are in fact Box Doves and no 'season'.  One of the fucking things fell into our stove vent and died (found out about it about three weeks after the fact and had to tear apart the stove exhaust device - we (that would be I) went on a killing spree - pump Crossman Pump .177 pistol.  Many benefits (eating the fucking things is not one of them):  cheap target practice , improved accuracy with a hand weapon and best of all, NO MORE FUCKING PIGEDONS !!!
The land lord thanked me, the neighbors thanked me and I thanked me .....................

Get an air gun, I have a Beeman RS2 which comes with both .177 and .22 barrels.

ETA For pigeons I'm sure it would be deadly, it's hell on squirrels.

Well the red rider did the job. First shot must of been a good shot. It wounded it pretty good. Next three shots just bounced off its fat fluffy body. Got a ladder out and put the muzzle right next to its head and that did the trick. Trying to climb a ladder with a rife and be discrete at the same time was not so easy

LoL, next time spend $50 on a .177 pump up air rifle. That said, .177 isn't that good on pigeons, but if it's a body shot, they will eventually die, might just take a few minutes. Which I suppose isn't a bad thing if it fly's away, you don't have to do any clean up! .22 will handle pigeons much better, though shot placement is still important. I have drilled some with my .22 air rifle and some drop like rocks, others fly off leaving behind a lot of feathers floating down. *shrug* So long as I hear that good smack/thud of impact, I know it wont be coming back.

Also if you're in town, check your cities regs. My town considers an air rifle the same as a firearm . Even though the BATFE has been very clear on air rifles NOT being classified as firearms.

As a member of a bridge maintenance crew I applaud you for killing one of those damned winged rats.  They shit in metric tons, squeezing into the most inconvenient places to do so.  Their poop in dry, dusty and airborne conditions is potentially lethal (not joking) and when wet is full of uratic acid, eroding the steel and stripping the paint.  No form of death, slow or painful, quick or bloody, is out of bounds when it comes to dispatching these fluffy devil spawned shit factories.  Good kill Sir, good kill.  Now go, and do again.
2/12/2016 8:56:14 AM EDT
[#50]
It kept returning to one spot between the soffit and lower roof. I am I was afraid it was going to try to build a nest. All of its poop is right there in that area. There is a small hole to where the roof meets the soffit. Can these damn birds squeeze into holes about 1/4 their body size?
