Other than the first post being hilarious, thanks for sharing OP. Do you know what bomb groups he was in and the years?

This went from a mediocre thread to fucking awesome.
Thanks for failing, OP. |

Respect for the man and the family. Less respect for OP's pic posting ability. As said before, "australian" comment funny, but not disrespect meant.

Sorry about your loss OP and thanks for sharing the picture of your grandfather.
And thanks for being a good sport about the first post -- he nailed it Levity is a panacea for sadness. |

View Quote Brave soul to fly the Consolidated B-24, hard to control and had a habit of shedding important bits like the control surfaces. If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going. Not willingly at least. |

Your grandfather, like my grandfather were brave man. I lost my grandfather a long time ago. My grandmother, being in Florida and working for RCA at the time, Who worked on the Mercury Gemini and Apollo missions passed away this morning July 1 she was 90. We are truly losing a fantastic generation of Americans.

Can someone tell me what his cover insignia is? I don't think the air force has a flaming skull.

Nice pics. The pics I have of my Grandpa in his WWII Marine uniform, and pics of he and my Grandma as a young couple, are some of my most treasured possessions. I love their wedding pic - My Grandpa and his brother/best man didn't wear the stupid monkeysuit tuxedos people do today, just nice suits. And they looked classy as hell. People back then knew how to carry themselves and look good.

Good thread. Thanks for the photo OP. RIP to your folks.
Can someone tell me the type of plane behind them in the group photo, that thing looks terrifying. |

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family, OP. My grandfather retired as a Lt. Col. and flew the B-24's.
This place is pathetic sometimes. Harassing this dude over the orientation of a picture of his deceased grandfather. Pathetic. |

My grandma always said he was Air Force, I guess because he flew planes.
I didn't know anything different till posting this. Back in 1991 when I visited him in Hospice dressed in Dress Blues, all he did was smile, he didn't say a word. As a kid, he trained me on the side of the house shooting a rotating target with a Red Ryder. I scored 3rd Award Expert in the Marines because of him, I opted out the fourth because they gave the option. My family has a lot of military, patriots exist in California. |

WWII Army Air Corps Officer's hat insignia. Your grandfather was a Lt. Here is a close up of the same hat insignia. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/29/ca/ac/29caac5ce7d08486597f3dc8cd8ad04b.jpg View Quote |

The aircraft in the photo is a B-24 Liberator. It's hard to tell exactly what the shoulder insignia is. I could just be the Air Corps Insignia: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/WWII-US-ARMY-AIR-FORCE-INSIGNIA-COLLECTIONS-AAF-WWII-VANTAGE-INSIGNIA-PATCH-/00/s/MTEzN1gxMDg2/z/dLkAAOxydB1SgpeK/$_57.JPG Or it could be one of the other more specific unit insignias that incorporated the same winged theme, examples: http://jandersoncollection.yolasite.com/resources/Picture203.jpg.opt650x486o0%2C0s650x486.jpg View Quote |

My other Grandfather was also ARMY but he was infantry. He was a mean bastard to my dad so I'm not sure there's pictures.
I remember him as a kid that nothing in the world would affect me as long as he was near me. |

Thank for sharing. So young! But I think about how that generation was & compare it to today's entitled, whiney useless kids who are the same age & ask:
How did things get so fucked up? If our 20-30yo had to deal with WWII now, we'd be goose stepping & sprechen Deutsch. But I digress -- thank you |
|
I have more pictures, when the dust settles I might make another thread, until then happy Independence Day. Cheers.
