I have an ARE tonneua fiberglass bed cover on my 2003 Tundra.Struts according to manufacture cost about $70.00 a piece. The struts have to hold about a 100 LBS each. They said dont get replacements at some place like Pep boys they wont last. What would anyone recommend as a replacement strut.I dont want to pay 70.00 apiece.
Has anyone heard of the might tightylid strut it in effect locks the struts so they dont fall.Anyone come up with a home made strut lock.

Look here and see if you can find some of the correct size and force you need.

I have an ARE on my Tacoma as well. I replaced the struts about a year ago when they were unable to hold the glass up anymore.  Mine were made by Suspa and had a part number on them. I either bough them on Ebay or Amazon for about $35.

my dad kept a pair of vice grips in the hatch back he used to drive for that purpose.
just opened it up and locked them on the strut so it wouldn't close.

cheap "fix" for a while anyway.

junk yards might be another choice if you can find them still working.
