A friend of mine has his system running on 4x1GB sticks; 3 are DDR400 and 1 is DDR333. His POST screen reports his 4Gb of memory as DDR200. Is he better off performance-wise w/2Gb of DDR400 (which POSTs as DDR400) or this 4Gb setup? TIA!...

No way to tell without a lot more information.
Faster memory is usually better. More memory is also better. Depends on the rest of the computer's components and what he's doing with it.

currently its running at the speed of the slowest stick of memory.
it will run "better" with the sticks of memory all the higher speed yes. significantly? no
