About three years ago, "the" pepper spray to get was Fox Labs.  So, I've got a few three-year-old pepper sprays around, and have finally remembered to do something about it while I'm near a PC.  I went to selfdefenseproducts.com (where I got my Fox Labs), and the Fox is discontinued.  Their replacement is "DPS X-Treme Range".

I'm looking to tap into the font of ARFcom wisdom and see if I should get this, or if there's some other brand that's supposed to be da bomb.  If a flame war erupts, I'll make a poll

Begin!

I was just hit with Sabre Red... and it sucked major ass..

I know most agencies around here use the same stuff... but I dont know if that makes it good or not.

Are these agencies kickass types?  Or do they want to be "sensitive to the community" and "respect the rights of the underprivileged citizens they come into contact with"?

Sabre is what I was hit with when I did my instructor certification.  It sucked sweaty smelly donkey balls.

Sabre is used by most of the departments in my area as well.

It is good stuff.

Plenty of places still sell it.

As long as it is available, that is what I'll use.

There is a limit to how "hot" it can be made.

100% pure OC crystals are ~16 million scoville heat units.

But you have to dilute it in order to spray it.

5.3 million seems to be about the max you can get.

I've yet to see hotter.

The agency I got sprayed by (for training, not for 'other' reasons ) is about the most ass-kicking agency in the state (google Sheriff Joe). We dont fuck around.

That doesnt make it good automatically... but I sure a hell do NOT want to be hit with it again.

We are very sensitive to the community, so we picked it. It was the change to the water base so the Tasers wouldn't cause the harmless patrons to ignite.

Fox is what I've carried and mine is dated 9/23/05 so I'm long over due for a fresh batch and Fox is what I'll go with again.

I just got 4 Fox 3 oz flip tops and an Inert (training) unit from

D.T. Distributors

Around 80 bucks with shipping and good service.

UPS required a signature, which I didn't see in their ordering process on the web. If that's a problem call and get it straight with them.

I imagine either Sabre of Fox would make for a bad time.

I forget but it's like a year or two, no more than two from what I remember.

Just found 2 years for Fox and 4 years for Sabre. Maybe one of the reasons agencies are making the switch?
