Is there a way to do this within XP?  In other words, without using an external application?

Right-click on folder, select "Properties."  Click on "Advanced" button under "General" tab, and select "Encrypt contents..."  Click OK.

The folder will then be encrypted to any other user on the machine.  Only someone signed in as you will be able to see them.

Hide all your porn on the C: under program files.  She'll never look for it there.

Does this work on XP Home as well?  For some reason, mine grayed out.

Mine is grayed out, too.  XP Home edition as well. Is there a way around this or is it a feature not found on XP HOme.  Please tell.

If somebody would please help this desperate ARFCOM member encrypt his, shall we say, for my pleasure only files on XP HOME.  Now that you've mentioned its available, I must have it.

XP Home does not support the 'fancy' security options of XP Pro...

Also, in XP you don't need to encrypt folders to make them invisible, you can

A) Right click the folder and go to 'Sharing' -> 'Make this folder Private'. The folder & contents is not encrypted, but other users are removed from the access control list, so they can't open it unless they log in as you...

B) If you have 'Simple File Sharing' turned off (eg you have the normal WinNT/2k 'Security' tab in your file properties, remove everyone but yourself from the access list...

Either of those are better than encrypting stuff...

XP home is so dumbed down, it may not let you do what you want...

P.S. lay off the porn...

buy PGP - it can encrypt a folder and mount it like a drive

The encryption of files in XP Pro sucks, better off getting some 3rd party program to do it like pgp.

Listen guys...

TO JUST KEEP YOUR FILES PRIVATE FROM AVERAGE JOE YOU DO NOT NEED ENCRYPTION!

Just use file permissions and deny access!!!!

To keep files private from computer-tech types, THEN you need encryption, as programs like the one on this website to wipe the password & get in (all you need is a CD with the software, and physical access to the computer)...

To stay secure from anything more, well, then you need 3rd party software at the least, and good luck not attracting attention at best...

Quoted from the download you provided...

If used on users that have EFS encrypted files, and the system is XP, all encrypted files for that user will be UNREADABLE! and cannot be recovered unless you remember the old password again.

But yeah, personal logins and or don't always use the Admin account and stuff stays separate enuff for average users. 3rd party progs for more than that. I use one though I probably don't really need to.
