Anyone used aomei partition assistant home(partition magic?) to extend the C: partition? For some reason the recovery disc split the drive and doesn't give you an option to change it when reinstalling. So i want to delete/recreate the d: and gain some C: but windows doesn't allow me to extend C even if i deleted D. Only thing on d is hidden recycle bin and sytem volume information so should be safe.

Is the partition assistant safe or is there a better way?

Good Day,
Your O/S might be limiting the size of the C: disk, i.e. it will only recognize up to a certain size. You might fill us in on the O/S, disk size, and brand of the BIOS perhaps. Best, Rob

It's a small 60g drive on vista. That's why i'm wanting to put the extra space on C: It defaults C to 24-25g with d being the same size. Thinking it needs to be continuous that is why i was going to delete D before extending it.

Ok its getting about time to try it. Anyone have a better method and failed uses of partition assistant home?

What's your file system? NTFS or FAT?

If FAT, that's your problem.

I've had good results with Parted Magic (a Linux LiveCD). One way or another, though, make sure you backup your important data.

Fresh recovery install so nothing to back up and out of cd's. I know linux deals with changing drive space fine but i'm thinking windows doesn't. Either way OEM and recovery disc usually give you an option not  this one.
This thing takes forever to do anything also since it is damn near bare minimum sytem requirements(1.4g single/512).  If it was mine vista wouldn't be going back on it. Just trying to help someone out.

Parted Magic will resize Windows NTFS partitions just fine. And no need to install anything.

Installing is easier than burning disc you don't have or wiping a jump stick with files.

Fair enough.

I've not used the Aomei Partition Assistant, so I can't speak to its reliability.

It seemed to work when i first got it but had other issues from before that i couldn't get lined out. Looking  like a few of the same tools under different names even down to same webpage layout.

Why do you think i'm asking ya'll. I don't think the 10 shit games on it, 4 registry editors installed, 3 anti viruses starting up helped it at all either. So start as fresh as it can with ease of use. I'm advising not spending money and buy something newer. Some people work and can't so trying to brighten up a shitty year for a friend.

I know one thing it took 16 hours just to get up to sp1 installed.

Is one of the partitions a recovery partition ? Seem s kind of big for that though. The disk on newer computers was used in case the drive whent bad or recovery partition became corrupted.

Are you saying installing up to SP1 took 16 hours ? If so sounds like the drive has some issues.

Well... I'd buy or beg a blank CD, burn Parted Magic, and take care of it that way.

Easus, mentioned above, has a free-for-personal-use version of their partitioner, and is a reputable company as far as I know.

Damn i should've said that. Drive is broken up 10g recover/taking up space ,C 25g and D 25g. D doesn't have anything on it. It will basically be used as a net box. I can't see over 5g ever being saved. It had been messed with when i got it but was only one office document.

It's a off brand 1.4g celeron with 512mb of ram  that is old as dirt. No that was was from what was on the recovery disc - sp1. SP1 only took 2-3 hours or so.

Since your helping a friend out and it is the season. I have a legit copy of XP that I can give you. You could delete all the patitions and have one big drive. I'll even make another disk from it and  slip stram all the service packs and most of the updates for xp into it.

Only bad thing is you will lose any additional apps from the recovery disk

that is if you feel like starting over

No offense to you and thanks for the offer but will pass. Just like to get this so it runs for a year or so without running out of room with wasted space.  Maybe by then she can upgrade. Not a normal user that saves a bunch of shit.

Have disc for needed apps

I'd rather take this fucking thing to the range and give up one of my pc's than start over.
