My first thought was "methhead" and she disturbed his cook, but after reading the article it sounds like more of a traffic stop.

Sad.

If the article i read is correct the officer was alive and concious immediately following the shooting but due to the cops not having any sort of mobile cover/rescue vehicle available she bled out over the course of about 3-hours before they could get to her.

How could anyone let a comrade bleed out... If its true I cannot comprehend the torment of the officers final moments, or the emotional scars of the responders who were unable to save her.

RIP Ma'am.

That has got to be terrible for the people that were there, not being able to get to your buddy to help her without getting killed your self all because some cocksucker is shooting at anyone trying to help her. That's shit you see in Iraq/Afghanistan not fucking Washington State!

Should never happen. There is no rational reason to not have some type of rescue vehicle available.

Agreed, but funding has been cut on everything these days.  It just fucking sucks the big one.  Those park rangers are probably working with little to nothing these day.

I had to do a couple of internships when I was going to school and chose a National Park for one ( Pinnacles NM ),  the manpower numbers and equipment used in parks that are not Yosemite, Yellowstone or a few other large parks is downright pathetic.  Hell most parks are like that.

RIP Ranger.

Sounds pretty early, but do we know why a park ranger was setting up a road block on NYEve alone?
Link Posted: 1/1/2012 2:41:36 PM EDT
[#37]
Why not set up a hasty support by fire, and recover the officer? I don't know the exact location but I know the area, seems reasonable with what was available at hand in that terrain. By the time a rescue vehicle shows up in a remote location, it's likely too late.

They should be able to get something via homeland security grants, DRMO or even corporate donation of an old brinks truck.

Though I agree this is a rational solution to the problem the public does not like the idea of cops useing supressive/supression fire and you burn through 18 rounds of .38 or 36 rounds of .40SW pretty fast doing that.

If we are going to expect the cops to perform that task competantly then we need to train and equip them to do it.

The suspect had already fled from one officer heading her way, so she blocked the road. Or at least thats what the email i got this afternoon said.

conflicting report is conflicting...

A Mount Rainier National Park ranger was fatally shot Sunday following a routine traffic stop,

She had set up a vehicle as a roadblock on a park road just before the shooting, which happened at about 11 a.m. near the Longmire Ranger Station

As windy as it was last night, and still is today here, near the park, my initial thought was a roadblock due to a down tree or something, but now I'm not sure what happened here...

Not really.

Ranger A conducts "routine traffic stop." Suspect flees.  Ranger B blocks road to stop fleeing suspect. Suspect shoots her.
