I used to run 30+ miles a week until one of our friendly neighbors to the north ran a stop sign striking me in the crosswalk. Long story short I jacked up my knee and my Dr basically told me no more running so I bought a 2008 Kona Dawg Supreme. I'm just doing in town riding to get used to being on a bike after 21 years without touching one, but I can't seem to find a way to carry a firearm in gym clothing where I'm not concerned about it falling out. I've seen the recommendation for various fanny packs but I trust the Arfcom collective more than random bloggers.  What do you all use?

Rig a pouch to the front of your camelback? Supported by one of the vertical straps and the sternum strap?

I'd probably stick with my belly band and just sweat all over the gun, just because it's convenient.  Or use w fanny pack for the same reason.

OP- good for you biking if you can't run.  I've always said "running is for food and fools" :p

The Hill People Gear bags look good to go.  I bike a lot when it's not winter, got a road-bike and a hybrid bike for trails.  Where I live I really haven't had the need to carry but it's something I want to have the gear for if needed in the future.

As for other ways to carry stuff on the bike, look at a front handlebar bag and a rack over the rear wheel.   I bike to work and carry my work-clothes, a towel, spare tire, misc tools and toiletry stuff.   I typically don't like to carry stuff on my back or waist.

Also, if we are talking self-defense- wear a helmet.  That's the #1 thing that will protect you on a bike (not your Concealed Cary).   Whenever I'm around traffic I wear my helmet as cars are the #1 enemy (Soccer moms are probably the most dangerous)!  That helmet isn't going to prevent an accident but it will turn a major accident into a minor one.

I like my snub by kit bag. I find when running, though, that I have to readjust. The strap with the clip seems to work its way loose a little.

As nice as the weather has been the last 5mos, it's been killer not being able to run

Ordered a helmet the day after I bought the bike, a "Bell Variant" that is scheduled to arrive Tuesday. I tend to stay off the main roads when possible, I live in a small town so it's not hard to stay away from traffic and on the main roads we have bike lanes which helps. Although I was hit by the car a block from my house on the back road . I'm looking at tool kits that fit under the seat, seems to be the way to go for simple repairs and such. Just pisses me off I have all this great running gear and it's all essentially useless . Unfortunately I live in a high meth area, and for some reason or another backpack kitchens on state/county/federal property are the "in" thing, so this is mostly for 2 legged creatures more than anything once I get out more into the wild.

I'm still figuring out when I use the left shifter, I honestly have not "needed" to use it yet so that's a bit confusing, my last bike was a single speed huffy so that's my basis for comparison! All in due time I suppose.

They also have the baggy shorts that have a lighter weight tight short and shammy underneath built in. I wear shammies without shame, but if I were a dude and shy I'd wear the one piece shammy baggies for better air flow than shammy + baggies.

I use a standard DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster for my LCP and drop a spare mag in the center pocket on the back of my jersey(most cycling jerseys have 2 or 3 pockets on the back of them used for carrying food/water/gear for long rides, plus they come in hi viz colors too since you've been hit before).  I mostly ride road but do mtb some.  If you're worried about sweating on the gun, just clean it when you get back.

Honestly I prefer a little more retention - even if it means an extra step to get to my gun.  I've eaten enough shit, like brain scrambling shit, that I don't want to be crawling around looking for a handgun after going ass over handlebars.

I tried a friends HPG kit bag but it felt like it always wanted to sag down when I was riding.  I never tried it clipped into and balanced out with a hydro pack though.

I know people love em and all but there does seem to be one caveat.  Back a few years ago I ran an LEO range qual for secondary weapons and there were a couple guys with fanny packs.  Wisely I seperated the relays into fanny packs and ankle holsters.  Now fanny packs and the HPG chest packs are different but they're similar in that the draw is a hell of a lot different than a waist holster.  Under any kind of stress - timed, square range stress for example - people fumbled the shit out of their fanny pack draws.  I even had a guy catch the hammer on the draw and fling a gun .  These were velcro rip-away and zippered fanny packs.

YMMV but if I ever pick up a Kit bag, I want to make sure I can do what I need to under stress.

After you do that a few times, your butt will get much more used to it. However, even once it does, padded cycling shorts will make your experience much more comfortable.

Not solved. Weapon isn't secured. Off body carry is problematic in a purse and at least you strap that to yourself.

If you crash or someone wants your bike, you're separated from your weapon or you're arming a bad guy while you're no longer armed. Not a viable option, IMHO.

I few years back I met a guy that had a small biking pack (like a camelbak) that had a small side access hidden pocket in the small of the back. It had a magnet closure and was lined to lock into a slip holster. Apologies to the OP for not remembering the name but, you could probably find one

Either a frame bag as posted above or in a hydration pack (Osprey makes the best these days).

A frame bag stays on the bike, not you, if you crash and get separated from your bike.

It is slower drawing from a backpack than a frame pack, but the pack stays with you if you get separated from your bike.

The last time I had a major crash (attacked by a psychopath in a car), I was separated from my bike for several days.

ETA:  Based on comments above, I looked at Hill People Gear.  Their kit bags look very secure and fast to acces.  The disadvantage is that they look hot and a bit conspicuous.  I may give one a try.

This when riding and another option for off bike (fanny pack?)  Should you take a spill off the bike, guns make bad padding.  In my experience ribs break before Glocks.  Maybe an option that secures it in your stomach area would be ok should you find yourself horizontal with the ground (so you aren't separated from the gun strapped to a bike). Yes I'd seen warnings about falling on guns and thought I knew better, then life gave me a memorable lesson.  ymmv

Someone recently posted a vid here of a guy on a mtn bike getting jumped out on the trail and they took his bike. In that scenario, they would have the bike and gun. I think its better to carry on your person.

ETA:Pistolwear makes some unique holsters that work well for physical activity, not sure how they would wear for bike riding. The PT-2 is good for running.

As a long distance road rider (average ride is a metric century,  62 mi or more) I carry a bunch of stuff in those back pockets.  It's easy to forget that the gun is there.  I doubt you will ride that far on a mtb, but if you stay on a bike for long you'll wind up on a road bike.   In my back pockets I usually carry:

1 spare tube
Compact air pump (mine is a bontrager, about 4" long collapsed)
A compact multi tool (mine is a bontrager)
A 10 mm open end wrench for my brakes
2 water bottles
2 power/cliff bars
1 rain slick (only when rain is more than 20% possible)
My phone and DL/CC/a $20 in a sandwich bag(incase I get hung in the rain before I can get the slick on
LCP+1 spare mag in a pocket holster
Cleat covers (for my Look clipless cleats)
A cycling cap

I also have a Jandd micro seat bag under the seat with a patch kit, a second spare tube, and a set of levers.  All total this stuff weighs in around 5lbs and is centered over my lower back.  The DeSantis comes with a large cover that helps the gun print less, but with the rest of the gear in there it's usually not a problem and my draw isn't radically different than my normal carry.  This setup has worked for me since I bought my LCP in '10.  Some of the "weight weenies" might bitch about the stuff I carry but I ride in the country and may experience a crash or mechanical 1 hour+ from help.  Try it and see if it works for you.
