My son got a ps3 for Christmas last year that came with a controller and he also got a mw3 controller seperate. I'd say they had moderate use throughout spring and little until recently. He has been playing his brothers xbox and when asked why, he stated his ps3 controllers didn't,t work. The sixaxis controller just blinks when plugged in, all four lights. Then they just shut off. I've reset controller, reset console and generally everything else I've found online. Is the only option to replace? The left analog stick on mw3 controller does not work. Any fix? I'm asking because the xbox is 5yrs old and never an issue, if ps3 controllers are this bad I will just replace the console with an xbox |

It depends on how abused they are.
I've had my original PS3 controllers from launch day and they still work just fine. My brother in law ruined one of my controllers, I had 4, now I have 3. Some people have no respect for the hardware at all. They think that pushing on the joysticks as hard as they can and scraping the plastic with the stick is how it's supposed to be played. Throwing them, etc. It will break your controller fast. He completely ruined the joysticks on the thing, and the plastic is in bad shape so even replacing them wouldn't really work. I had one have a slight problem where the joystick sensed it was in the up position and kept going up, took it apart and reseated the motherboard and the joystick board and it fixed the problem. Inside there are 2 boards, 1 for the main controller and 1 that controls just the joysticks. If those come apart from each other, it can cause problems, not sure if it would cause it to blink and then turn off, but it could. May be worth taking apart and looking at. Look up videos on youtube, they aren't hard to take apart and put back together. Again, I've had my controllers, 2 from original launch, and 2 from a few years ago. The only reason one of them doesn't work now, is because some idiot broke it. So I'd say they last. |
