How well I remember that "PING."

I have spoken to several vets who used it to their advantage. When in close proximity, they'd drop an empty clip on a rock to make it go "PING" to fool the enemy into charging... then they'd open up on him!

GAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!

What did they say they did all the time in Vietnam that was just as ridiculous?  Something like carry around an extra buffer spring to rub across their helmet so Charlie would think they were empty?

Every single thread.

Something tells me that amidst all of the other sounds of battle, that little PING! wouldn't be very audible to the enemy.  I rank it up there with the MATTEL M16 myth, and the M1 carbine failing to stop Chinese soldiers because of their winter coats.

Not taking anything away from the Garand, I love mine!
