I got a blue screen of death last night. Couldn't catch all of what it said, but at the bottom it said dumping cache, or memory. Now when I boot up the hard drive light doen't flash, and it won't even go the start up screen(can't even get into the bios), it just says searching for floppy media. I don't even have floppy drive. I don't have a speaker in the case, so no beeps. Also, a light stays on on the keyboard now whenthe pc is off, which never happened before.

Does it sound like a fried mobo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PC specs:Gigabyte mobo, Intel dual core 1.8ghz CPU(OC'd to 2.7ghz)w/cooling fan, 4 GB ram, BFG 640 mb video card, 80gb hard drive. Litescribe DVD burner, generic DVD drive, Antec 900 case w/ 5 fans. Running Vista business x64.

More then likely.

Pull the CMOS battery out for a few minutes, put it back in and see if she boots up.

You heard it first from Mr. Microsoft yourself

No go on the CMOS battery. The screen just says
detecting floppy drive A media....
scanning bios image in hard drive....
scanning bios image in floppy diskette....
and just hangs there with the cursor flashing.

Can someone recommend a good mobo for a socket 775 with DDR2 memory in the $125.00 range?

You pulled off all the drives to see how far it would get?

Did you re-seat the ram?

Remove the OC, turn off all non essential devices in the BIOS (floppy controller) and try again.

I just reseated the ram, unplugged the drives, and rebboted one by one, and now all I get is a black screen.

The hard drive light flashes once at boot up. That's it. Everything else works.

It's back to the sceen that says searching bios image in hard drive, then floppy drive A.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Go into the BIOS and reset everything to default.
Then disable the floppy controller.

So stick a BIOS image on a floppy drive and let it reflash.

What kind of board is this?

It almost sounds like it one of those boards like intels where if the bios gets focked, it goes into a "default" mode where it's waiting for you to load a floppy of the bios image cause the current bios flash/image is fubar.

Gigabytes have this feature, although I have never FUBAR'd a board enough to warrant ever seeing it.

Yeah it's a gigabyte board. I can't get into the bios. It won't even bring up the Award bios screen, and I don't have a floppy drive.

You have a USB key?

What's a USB key? I can't find the manual for the mobo. I have everything else in a box, but the manual. I did find the title to my Jeep though!
Which F key takes you into the bios at start up?

I think he's asking if you have one of those USB jump drive ram thingy's you put on your keychain or a necklace.

The manual won't help you much. But you can get one on the Gigabyte website.

A USB thumb drive. You cane create a bootable drive that may allow you access to reflash the BIOS. www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm

There is no F key that gets you into the BIOS, it is the "del" key. That requires the board to POST, and it does not look like it is doing so. It needs a BIOS image to restore itself. If you need to get a floppy drive, that will be easier than a new board.

Well to re-cap:

You need to get a floppy

Find your exact Mboard model

Download img file to floppy per the img file instructions

Boot off floppy

Then, hope that your bluescreen goes away cause if not you still have to resolve the bluescreen issue with a reload.

I do have a floppy drive in my old PC. I'll pull that out and put it in this one. I'll pick up some floppy discs today.

Not even blue screen. He can't even POST. He either has to restore the BIOS image, or GTFO.

Right, but his first issue was the blue screen.
He can open hope getting his board to post will resolve that.
